OTA here plus Hulu (not Hulu +) and we do watch some shows on Prime like Warehouse 13. We do have a Netflix DVD account. Yes, the old fashioned DVD and there are a good number of kids stuff available there. Great for car trips with the DVD player. Cable or satellite have nothing but fake crap reality 90% of the time.

OTA is great when the weather gets all horky.

Why I stopped watching TV and ....

I too watch a lot less TV. Seems like most of the time they do advertizing and self promotions. The actual content of programs must be not more than 20%, maybe less. I do though watch more of the off the main stream channels that show old movies or TV shows. News shows are pretty much useless. All I get is endless meaningless cheery banter. For news I go to Google News.

I quit tv long before Al Gore invented the internet.

But I definitely agree. I can't stand the commercials. Anything I watch is through netflix, downloaded or bought on DVD. We cut the cable years ago and don't regret it for a second.

I know that but it's not on the standard free to air TV channel there is it?
Down here you can either watch it on paid TV or download it from the Web. It's not on a standard channel.

TV channels need to make money to exist but ironically "the commercials have ruined commercial TV".
Of course there is advertising on the Net but you can choose to ignore that advertising in a variety of ways.

It's almost impossible to ignore them on TV because if you "flip" when they're on they are also on the other channels so I'm convinced they're synced.
Which tells me in a round about way they are actually working together because for that to work they have to have the same length add breaks and they also have to know before hand when those add breaks will happen.

That syncing really bugs me because to me, them working together seems unethical and gives me another reason not to tune in.

Then there's the 2-minute ads for other television shows...

But I'm very particular about what I watch.

And I use the MUTE button a LOT!

TV for me is a way of not having to interact. It's a way for my head to be lazy and not have to think.

I work my tail off and when I want to wind down and chill, TV is one way to accomplish that.

Participation in online forums is a way to connect and interact with others and is also a way to unwind.

Both serve their purposes, for me.

Just like using email, snail mail, fax, or telephone to communicate. They all serve a purpose.

That's just what I was thinking also.
