Big tornadoes are produced from a super cell thunderstorm. The often have a main tornado and several small tornadoes rotating around the main tornado. Some of the smaller tornadoes can move 80 mph across the ground. The one that hit El Reno about one year ago had the main tornado at over 2 miles wide and 5 or 6 smaller ones moving at 80 mph. Most of the fatalities were storm chasers that got chased. The traffic jam was just food for the tornado.
