New phone time?

All right all you iPhone or Android fanboys, there's a new game in town. Actually, looks pretty cool...

Amazon unveils Fire Phone smartphone - Jun. 18, 2014

Great but one of the biggest feature of this phone is the "database" connection to millions of products sold on Amazon.

Being able to point to something and then finding that something on Amazon for sale is cool.
But I avoid online shopping and only buy things I can't buy locally so it's almost redundant to me.

HOWEVER.... I love the dynamic perspective! Very COOL.

This video is worth a look because I couldn't get the one in the link to work.

Posted from my z30, an awesome phone.
It can run most apps now from Amazon and will be even easier to do so in a few months.

Not like the altruistic Apple corporation that never tries to sell you anything with their phone :p

I am also a Z30 fan, they are quite rare in the UK, I havent actually noticed anyone else but me using one since I got mine in October.

I actually do quite a bit of shopping (like, MOST of my shopping) on Amazon. However, I usually do so because I can't find crap here in my town. So, the look at a product and then go to Amazon wouldn't really work for me, usually.

I think it's cool that an online "retail store" is really making large inroads to the tech world. I'm kinda interested in Amazon's competition for the Roku, too (think it's called the Fire). And my family's a huge fan of their tablets.

Um - I've been able to do that on my iPhone for the past couple of years using the Amazon app. Nothing new about this.

Meh - while it looks cool, it isn't something that will add that much value to a smartphone. It has a 'gee-wiz' factor, but that's about it. Kinda reminds me of the 'revolutionary' Nintendo 3DS 3D hand-held gaming system. Cool idea (3D gaming without glasses) but not a big deal after all.

Now if the phone had a roll-out screen, or a holographic 3D projection -- then it would be revolutionary! :D

Meh. Just looks like another warmed over android phone.

"Firefly takes data harvesting to a whole new, unprecedented level. It can harvest
user data totally unrelated to the feature you think you're using.

Note that Amazon does allow you to manually delete any image or sound recording
uploaded through Firefly. "

Did you seriously expect anything else?
(Do you use FB, Twitter, Google, Bing or any other website? Then I have news for you! ;) )

I dont care if they harvest data. I love it when I get automatic suggestions for things I am looking for.
But I dont see any need for the 3D-thingy.

I see some stepbacks currently. Wasn't it Sony Playstation or Xbox that is (optionally) delivered without camera now? Also the new console games are not using the person recognition technology any more (only those stupid dancing-games are)?

Don't get me wrong... I'm not surprised.

Do you remember the facial/retina recognition scenes from "Minority Report"?
