Anybody looking for a 930 cab...

Looks like a decent car for the money. No affiliation. Just saw it looking.

1983 Porsche 911

A930Rocket 06-20-2014 02:47 PM

No thoughts on it?

GG Allin 06-20-2014 02:59 PM

Scam? Don't know much about cabs, is that supposed to be a factory original car? If so, seems to good to be true.

GG Allin 06-20-2014 03:03 PM

Google search of the VIN returns many web pages, including this one:

1983 Porsche 930 Turbo Cabriolet Rock Solid Car New Trans Fully Sorted | eBay

Quick run of the Vin comes up that it started life as a 930 coupe. Only one place in town that services old Porsches, Doc's. Would be real easy to call over there and find out.

Sure...

High miles.
Poor presentation.
Has needs...
Not a fan of the interior color.
Shame that somebody cut the roof off of a perfectly good coupe.

I don't know why people advertise these cars on Craigslist. I think Craigslist is for bottom feeders. I also have to wonder why they present a car so poorly. If they are that lazy when they market the thing, how well did they take care of it?

Anyone know if that was the selling price on this 930 cab? I have a factory cab with 51k on it and a motor built to the tilt but very stock looking. I'll never sell it, but now I am very interested to see what they are worth.

onewhippedpuppy 06-22-2014 05:21 AM

If it were a coupe I'd be all over it.

Believe it or not, I sell more Porsches on Craigslist than anywhere else.

javadog 06-22-2014 06:10 AM

That's not how you get the big bucks when you sell something...

I emailed him. It's a scam.

'Send me your email address so I can send you more pictures'.

Maybe, but if I post a car on EBay, PCA, Autotrader, and Craigslist, more often than not it's the Craigslist ad that sells the car. Granted I normally play in the under $30k arena, if I were selling a 991 it might not be the best venue.

kaisen 06-22-2014 10:06 AM

Craigslist is free, and it draws a larger audience than any other medium. Even if you want to sell your rare Porsche or Ferrari or Citroen to some elite hobbyist, that same hobbyist is likely perusing CL as well. You're just as likely to "get the big bucks" from CL as any other source. All it takes is ONE buyer.

javadog 06-22-2014 11:05 AM

None of the collectors I know, and I know more than a few, ever look at Craigslist.

But, what the hell. It's a fake turbo cab, so who cares... ;)

I know tons of collectors that look at multiple sources, including CL.

Again, what have you got to lose? Seriously? It's free. List it ten places, who cares...

PorscheGAL 06-22-2014 03:26 PM

I look at craigslist quite often and I bought the Lotus off Craigslist. You can't discount that it is an effective place to list a car. As a seller, what do you have to lose?

So, the guy asks to email you more pictures, I am not sure that is a tell that it is a scam. If I was looking to add to the Porsche content in my garage, I would look at it. The price is not crazy. It may have started life as a couple but the car is worth a look.

1990C4S 06-22-2014 06:09 PM

He didn't answer any of my questions, and I didn't ask for pics. He just replied requesting my email address. Which he doesn't need to send me pictures, he emailed me via C/L, why not attach the pictures?

It's a typical C/L scam searching for email addressed to send spam to later.

Yes and does not have the right Engine Support (Cross Member) for a Cab

Exactly, you don't see any in the picture. Cab have a different bracket and it would show in the pic if there was one. As mentioned before, the VIN is for a coupe, so this one is a "chop top" job.
