NYC lowers the speed limit to 25 MPH

Shooting in NYC have risen over 40 percent since Deblasio has taken office, taxes continue to rise middle and upper class families are fleeing the state and city at record levels and what does this idiot spend all of his energy on, lowering the speed limit to 25 MPH. It has come to a point where you cannot leave your house without being pulled over for all kinds of nonsense. I thought summons quotas were illegal yet he order the NYPD to go out and write as many as they can. This is just another way to tax the working class for the privilege of living in NYC.
He also produced a bill allowing people to sue Police Officers personally for stopping and frisking someone if that person feels they were wrongly stopped. This should really drive the crime rate through the roof. I am not endorsing officers that abuse authority but there are laws and rules in place to prevent this already. Suing an officer personally will just have the effect that we are already seeing crime will rise and instead of pursing criminals they will just write tickets.
I hope that all of the idiots that put this dictator in office are on the receiving end of the crime wave and ticket blitz hitting this city as they are the ones who truly deserve it.

One more reason I'll never live in NYC and will only visit as infrequently as work demands I must.

VINMAN 06-20-2014 04:57 AM

This is the same reason all the NYC highways are still 50MPH , although I can't remember that last time I was able to do over 5 MPH anyway with all the traffic and backups... Its all about revenue generation.

Deblasio is making Bloomberg look like a prince.

DaveE 06-20-2014 04:57 AM

Last time I was in NYC it was impossible to get to 25 mph

Might as well sell the Porsche and ride a bicycle if max speed is 25 mph....G

His effort is focused on increasing the use of public transportation but he's just getting public exodus.

Give it time and he'll make it another Detroit.

vash 06-20-2014 07:35 AM

NYC the next Detroit? Maybe if Kurt Russell is running around with an eye patch. The city will just only have rich mofos living there.

Moving to manhattan was one of the best decisions I ever made. Moving out of manhattan was one of the best decisions I ever made. I still go back often for work and can't wait to leave as soon as I arrive. The pizza doesn't even taste good to me anymore

I've got an idea, we'll all ride horses instead. . . .

. . . wait. . .

VINMAN 06-20-2014 11:07 AM

I was born and raised in NYC, I work there, 99% of my family is still there.

Still, If I never had to go to NYC again, I wouldnt miss it one bit.

On what Manhattan street would it be safe to have cars, trucks, cabs all moving at 30 mph?

Shaun @ Tru6 06-20-2014 05:15 PM

This is all my fault, I asked Deblasio to see what he could do about bringing apartment prices down.

I fondly remember racing cabs up 6th to Central Park on rollerblades. Still want to move back.

Many actually..

Some of you actually believe what you hear on MSM or read in print media...

The speed limit on primary roads will not change, the speed limit on state roads within NYC might not change...The Interstate routes that pass through NYC...

This bill concerns secondary and tertiary roads.....

They might Lower the speed limit on Ocean Parkway from Courtelyou to Foster because the Hasidim request it...

Etc..

I.E. the FDR Drive... West Side Highway (9A) etc.. will not be 25 mph zones.... Prospect Parkway, and the Conduit, Queens Blvd, Northern, Linden.. will remain at the posted limit... ( which is 30 mph)

Seriously... do you believe every road within NYC is going to be posted at 25 mph?

I think DeBlasio is a ****ing waste of oxygen.. but all this bill does is allow NYC to assign lower speed limits to some city owned roads......

Cool, so they are done with crapping on CA so a crap on NYC thread started. Give me a moment and let me see what I can come up with. I was just thinking about that the other day when I was stuck in traffic. Why aren't there more bash NY threads. Maybe there are?

Three cities I see no point in driving in, NYC, SF and London. Fortunately, when I'm in any of them I get a driver assigned to me. Sometimes life is good.

This does not just apply to Manhattan the speed limit also applies to the other boroughs. There are many 2 and 3 lane roadways where a 30 MPH speed limit is a safe speed to travel at. NYC is not just Manhattan it is made up of 5 boroughs all together

onewhippedpuppy 06-21-2014 04:05 AM

How many people actually even own cars that live in NYC? All of my friends that live/have lived there used public transit because owning a car was cost prohibitive and rather pointless.

I am sorry I do not believe everything I read but you are incorrect. Of course the speed limit on state roads will not change this is a NYC law. As for city streets the limit will be lowered to 25 MPH on all city roads even Northern Blvd and Ocean Parkway. It has already been lowered on parts of Northern Blvd. before this law even has been signed. All of the roads you mention will be lowered to 25 MPH.
