What's this in my lawn
This is in michigan:
This has started out slow and really spread this year, it's a real fat blade type of grass with a thick stalk. I really want to get it out of my lawn without killing all the grass if possible. It grows real green and faster than the regular grass around it. I did spray some crabgrass and other weed killer on it, seems to start to turn it a bit yellow as in the first picture. ![]() ![]() ![]()

It's green. Mow it and forget.

When I was in Florida this was the only thing they had there but I'm not in Florida, Usually grab grass spreads out real flat, I guess, Maybe not.
I'm getting older and you know how that goes: Get off my lawn!

I use my Estwing 14 oz rock pick to pick around the roots a little then pull it out. I make sure to keep it out of my yard so this doesn't happen...

The pic of your lawn looksl ike it's fescue. But I could be wrong from that pic.
My favor-ite product for fescue is called turflon ester. It kills crabgrass, clover, weeds, other types of grasses like bermuda. It's 'spensive, bout $25 for 1/2 pint but that'll last a year or two. About an ounce in two gallons of water in a hudson sprayer goes a long way. Gud stuff. ![]() Last edited by sammyg2; 06-23-2014 at 02:39 PM.. |

Looks like plain old St. Augustinegrass to me. There is stuff called Trimec that will kill it or you can just pull it up as needed. I have a little bit in my bermuda lawn that I have been pecking away at over the years.

I agree with it being St. A. Don't worry about it, it'll choke out the rest over time and you'll have the best looking lawn around, IMHO. That is unless your neighbor has bentgrass.
It requires a lot of water, and it wouldn't be there if you didn't have plenty of it.

St Augustine grass and cold weather
I didn't think that St. Augustine grass could take cold weather? Even in North Georgia some people have trouble getting it to grow and thrive. It does best in warmer climates like Florida. Your "weed" definitely looks like crabgrass to me. Best to kill it if you can.

I'm in N. Georgia, and it grows like crazy. Heck...it'll take root on concrete!

Don't ever use this crap on your yard or anywhere for that matter, it is absolute poison.
