Early Restored 2-Stroke Street Bike - Interest?

Hey all! I have decided to 'thin the herd' and am selling my wife's bike: 1972 Yamaha CS-5 / 200 Electric that is completely restored with NOS parts.

History:

Was purchased from the original owner who is now is his 70's that was part of a modest collection of 70's era bikes. They were all very well cared for and stored inside.

Stats:

Only 4600 miles, all original paint. Completely gone through 2 years ago with new top-end, extensive performance mods but retains outward stock appearance except for pod air filters. Both wheels are re-spoked in chrome, hubs re-finished in correct style, new inner tubes and tires. Custom rear sprocket for lower gearing as the overall gearing is a little high (tall) for running around town. Every piece has been addressed by either repairing, restoring or NOS replacement. Lithium-Ion battery.

Needs:

The clutch plates need replacing and I have the parts and will install prior to sale as well as changing fluids again.

I have clear Virginia title in my wife's name and would let the vanity plates go with it if buyer wants them. It would make a great affordable addition to start or add to anyone's collection! Very easy to ride and very powerful - Price $2500. Please contact me via my email: theasphaltgambler at hotmail dot com OR PM here - thanks!!

Yes, I believe the last year for manufacturer import to USA for street use was 1975.

Back in the day I owned a DS7 250cc and a RD400 both were a lot of fun to ride. The 400 had more grunt and pulled strong to red line. I always wanted to make mine into a Kenny Roberts replica in the classic yellow with black stripes. Good luck with the sale.

rz350

Yamaha sold the rz 350 into the early 80s
In Canada you could get the 500 which was a blast

I believe the RZ350 was the last 2-stroke streetbike sold in America, from '84-'86.

What a beautiful bike! I'm surprised someone has not snapped it up yet. I love 2-stroke streeters. I have an RD250, RD350 and GT380. I'd put this one next to them if I had the room. It's very nice!

*cough* Sammy, there is a local RD400 for sale on craigslist... *cough* but you didn't hear It from me

Good luck on the sale gambler... great little bike... I would most certainly kill myself riding it... if not riding my wife would kill me after pulling up on it.

I remember riding my buddy's RD.
Lighter and faster than snot, but had a flexy-flyer frame and severe nose dive forks every time I hit the brakes. Prolly allot safer to dream about that bike than buy it.

Still, if I bought an RD that wouldn't necessarily mean I'd HAVE TO ride it. I could just put it in the garage and keep it clean and shiny and show it to my friends without starting it up ...........
Sux being the old guy.

This morning on the sound's "laughter at 45 after", a comedian talked about a guy who bought a bus on e-bay.
he went on to explain how that guy was his new hero because he couldn't buy a hamburger without getting into trouble with the wife. Duh, just doan tell her about the hamburger and hide all the evidence!!

So right now I'm shopping for a new car for the wife. Her SUV is 5 1/2 years old, time to replace it

Se wants a RAV4 limited but it has to have leather seats. Her last two cars had leather seats and she's used to them.

I just told her that I always wanted a vehicle with leather seats but considered them an extravagance that I could not justify, and that it is interesting that she can afford leather seats and I can't.
(THE 911SC has had the seats recovered before I bought it, with simulated leather AKA nauga hides).

So guess who's sleeping on the couch if I don't cave in on the leather seats?

Beautiful bikes! Not a buyer, however - I onced owned 15 at one time...I'm done collecting bikes.
.
I once owned either an '84 or an '85 (bad memory) dead stock RZ350 - Yellow and Black Kenny Roberts Edition w/seat cowl. Bought it for $1,500 from a Yamaha dealer's widow...it had 1,400 miles on it and was buried under blankets in one of their bedrooms. Sold it for $4,800 to a collector to pay for a $16,000 roof job (BIG mistake).
.
My best times on a particular Bay Area canyon road was on that bike.
They called that bike "The Flexy Flyer", but I found it quite solid. And at the time I was racing a Ducati 996S at local Bay Area tracks.
.
BTW, wasn't the RD400 dubbed '"The Widow Maker"?

That was the Kawi Mach 1. My dad had one. Scary fast.

My son just made a cafe racer out of one. Here is a few photos right after he finished a test ride, and before taking it all apart again. Now the frame is all finished and painted, just needs to build a seat and put it back together.

Went to school with a guy named Fred Shows, he rode one of these.
the only bike to scare me so much I wouldn't get back on it.

He had it ported and modified so that it was so pipey, you either had to stay in the powerband all the time or stay completely out of it.
If you were out of it and rolled into it the front would be up in the air faster than you could react.
I went about 100 yards before I nearly looped it.
Idled back and said no thanks.

In 1972, the 750 cc Kawasaki H2 Mach IV was introduced and was essentially a scaled-up version of the H1 500.[2] A stock H2 was rated at 12.0 seconds for the quarter mile (402 m). Updated with more power and better front disc brakes, the H2 became the undisputed king of the streets,[clarification needed] even beating legendary muscle cars of the era such as the Plymouth Hemi Cuda. It was notoriously dangerous, being prone to up-and-over wheelies and speed wobbles. The dangerous handling characteristics arising from its mediocre frame design caused it to be nicknamed the "Widowmaker" by motorcycle enthusiasts of the 1970s.

Thanks all for the positive comments!! I bought this some years ago because my wife wanted to learn how to ride and then possibly have her own bike. This was at a time when I had a little extra pocket change so I thought I would start collecting early 70's era street two-strokes and with this one kill two birds with one stone.

It took me a while to find a honest, decent bike that I could work on and modify a little to suit my tastes. of course it became a slippery slope. While the wife was initially interested and rode it around some .......................the novelty quickly faded (for her). No problem, I would ride it occasionally and it was a great conversation piece but now we need to downsize again and this is the next one to go.

I do believe I may have it sold to a fellow member here. Stand by...................
