"You pulled me over with your horn, I don't know what that was about," the unidentified officer said.

"Because you were speeding and had your cellphone in your hand," Miner responded.

The officer then says "Police officers can actually use technology when we're driving."

The officer then asks Miner for his license and registration and, after asking him if he was speeding, says he's going to write Miner a ticket for "unlawful use of horn".

Then Miner tells the officer that he's being recorded and shortly after the officer decides not to write him a ticket.

"I didn't want to hurt your record," the officer said.

Wow.

I wish mine were big and brassy enough to pull over some cops. Many do believe they are above the law. I find that very aggravating and it gives a poor reputation to hard working / law-abiding police.

Initially the LEO tried to intimidate the driver by checking his logs, looking for an infraction like a tail light out, repeatedly trying to get him to admit he was speeding, and then using the unlawful use of the horn... When that wasn't happening, I suspect the LEO called his commander and said "he's got me so how do I handle this?".

At lease he was smart enough to take the high road and said, hey, I may have made a mistake rather than do the power trip thing and push his way through on some cooked up charges.

I actually had a very similar encounter with a Washington State Patrol officer about three or four years ago. It was on northbound I-405, starting in Renton and finally ending in Woodenville.

I was on my Ducati when this guy passed me like his hair was on fire, so I started following him about a quarter mile back. He must have finally noticed me, as he pulled over to the right shoulder, let me pass him, then pulled in behind me and pulled me over. This after almost 20 miles on a very busy interstate.

I took my helmet off and walked calmy back to him as he was getting out of his car. I told him I was glad he had finally stopped, because I wanted to speak to him about his driving. I told him he was tailgating people and intimidating them to get out of his way, passing them on the right, and doing a good 85 mph in a 60 mph zone. That, and he was not using his turn signals to change lanes. I told him it was very clear to me that he was not on any kind of an emergency call, and then asked him why he thought this kind of driving was acceptable. I pointed out that I would have probably earned at least an aggressive driving, if not a reckless driving citation if I were carrying on like that.

He said that the governor authorizes them to speed in the execution of their duties, and that since I was obviously keeping up, I must have been speeding and he was going to write me a ticket. I responded that I'm sure that is true, assuming they are responding to a call. The governor most certainly does not, however, authorize them to drive like reckless ass holes, endangering others on our highways. I told him to get his supervisor out there immediately, as I felt he could not be objective and I was being treated unfairly (my right under Washington State law). I asked him to give me his business card and told him I would be contacting my lawyer. In the meantime, we could wait for his supervisor. I had all day...

Suddenly, he decides maybe he doesn't need to write me a ticket. He protested that he wasn't really tailgating, and tried to say that passing on the right is technically legal. He started getting very appologetic. I finally told him hey, we all see this behavior, and it sure doesn't do much for your image with the public. He appologized again, so I told him to slow down and be safe out there. We shook hands and parted company.

Frankly I don't see the joy or utility in actively provoking a LEO.

Please by all means stand up for your rights, but "pulling over" a cop for speeding is silly.

If I took it upon myself to adminiser justice for everyone I saw driving like a dillhole, I'd never make it more than a mile from my house.

This is flat out stupid. When you get pulled over, you have NO rights. He's the one with the badge and the gun.

A self-fulfilling prophecy if ever I did see one. If that is your attitude, you are, of course, correct.

I wish more people would stand up against LEO abuses and bad behavior. They should not get a free pass simply because they "...have the badge and the gun". We grant them a good deal of authority, and with that our trust that they will not abuse it. Seems more and more lately have taken to abusing their authority and our trust. I, for one, will not stand for it. More and more are starting to feel like me as the abuses make up more and more of a typical news day. You can do what you want - they count on guys like you.

When you see it enough, it will get under your skin.
I'm sure they're good cops out there. However, the majority are dicks abusing power.

there is a chasm between "being a victim" and actively chasing down a cop. I didnt watch the video but if you tried to pull any citizen over you would be lucky not to get shot.

I don't agree that the majority are dicks. I dont have rigorous enough data set to generalize to majority. I know the issolated cases on the news. I know for sure some act like jerks. Ive been pulled over a dozen times in my life about 85% of those officers were cool. I know that being a cop is a thankless low paying job and I know that even with the documented issues I would rather have them around than not.

1. No one "pulled over" any cops in any of these stories.

+1 That's pretty much what I've found, too. Ditch the attitude when pulled over, and they usually give you a break. It isn't the highway patrol guys that make my blood boil ..

I don't think you have had enough personal experience with police officers...

I've been drawn on multiple times. Threatened to be killed. almost hit by one on purpose when he decided to cut across all the lanes on the freeway, been given bull **** tickets that were how do your say. Not provable. Then had the dash cams conveniently turned off when requested by the courts.

Let alone over hearing officers brag about shootings when I worked at a Hilton...

Therein lies the problem. The public living in fear of LEO. They work for us...not the other way around.

I'm guessing that guy's SCMODs file has a little entry in it now which means if he EVER so much as jaywalks he's going to have the wrath of god brought down upon him, probably get a skull-thumping too.

My father did something similar when I was in my teens, probably 87/88 ish. This was long before cell phone cameras and people knowing, understanding and exercising their rights.
It did not go so well for poor old Dad. He ended up needing a lawyer to keep his license, and still had to pay a small fortune in fines. They threw the book at him. Towed his truck etc. I still applaud him for standing up for himself .
I think the souper trooper passed my dad , and then cut him off, no lights or sirens.
I guess he chased the copper down,, got in front of him and made him pull over. He is lucky they did not shoot him

Don't think I'd confront a cop like this...I don't want the grief.
I say, leave the bad-ass cowboys to their own fate...their life is their own punishment.
