Lest you think that Gary is the worst ever I would suggest you do some research.

The reality is a) he works for the owners not the fans, and therefore his job is to put money in their pockets and b) the league has prospered under his guidance. Lots of wrong moves, but he always has a counter move.

The game has been made faster, scoring is up, revenue has increased far beyond what anyone thought possible ten years ago. They have a multi-BILLION dollar TV deal, etc etc.

And as a rebuttal you might offer up what you would do were you in his shoes. I suspect the constraints put on you by the NHLPA ans the owners would have your hands tied too....

I knew I could count on you to disagree with every post about hockey that I make but I digress...
Bettman has single handedly caused two lockouts. One was totally unnecessary.
The faster game is due to rules changes that came from owners not Bettman. Income is due to better TV deals.

The owners won one each and every lock-out, the players caved each time. There's a reason the owners keep him employed. They are all making more money each year and franchise values continue to increase.

The ability of the league to run roughshod over the players ended when Allen Eagelson was turfed and the players figured out they had been duped. It's typical pro sports now, lockouts aren't uncommon and they cost very little. Fans return, playoffs make the owners more money and life goes on.

The owners made the game faster? Seriously? Maybe the players did, the owners as individuals do almost nothing. The league is run by the NHL office, the GM's (essentially a competition committee), and the NHLPA. When they all agree changes get made. With o leadership nothing changes. (see Gil, Stein or Zeigler, John).

So the the bad things that happen are Bettman's fault, but the significant increase in league revenue (and salaries) is not his?

And as a rebuttal you might offer up what you would do were you in his shoes.

Anyone can sit back and criticize. I would like to hear some constructive suggestions.
