Yea, check out what happens when a gyrocopter looses power or stalls. (Hint they become a lump of stuff falling out out the sky at terminal velocity)

Takeoff and landing distances are likely to be unacceptable to most folks (even if they have the $$) - unless they live/work near a landing strip.

I think it's just my current mindset, but the first thing I thought of when I saw that picture with the OP's headline is, if you're fighting a commute like that in order to buy a conveyance like that to ease the commute, then something is very, very wrong...
I know. I'm just a Danny Downer, putting cold water on somebody's fun. Nothing at all against the OP, just the way my mind works these days...

Unless you're living in a very rural area, don't forget the several thousands of dollars it will cost for your pilot's certificate (got to pass your flight physical as well). You won't be leaving the urban sprawl and congestion below without one. Where there is a metro area, there is usually controlled airspace.
It's funny how the flying car promoters always leave that bit out.

Is this the one that you're not allowed to fly, unless you take off from an airport?
 They were talking about a flying motorcycle a couple years ago. Against the law to take off from a road or something. Some FAA rule? Defeated the whole purpose of flying car/bike.
