Old Mercedes van - anyone know about these?

I have got fed up with having to book hotels etc when going to the race weekends during the summer and started looking for a cheap camper type van. Found this one for sale over here in Finland, which looks to need some love.

But I have no experience with these old vans and did not come up with much on a Google search trying to find out what they have as common issues - do they rust like mad etc, so figured I would see if there were some people on here that might have experience with these

Is this a run and do not look back type of thing, or should I go and take a closer look...

4,300 kg + 3.8 l diesel = dangerously slow

I suspect it cruises fine on the highway, but a long on ramp might be nice. And downhill.

Sure, it is no Porsche 911... The searching I have done suggests turbo to be a common upgrade. But I am trying to find out common problems first.

I'm assuming 2k Euros?

If it runs and the rust isn't fatal, that is the coolest van on the planet.

I'd buy it just to park next to Hugh

Pretty cool old rig, now you can work on the van all the way to the track, work on the car while,at the track, and work on the van all the way home.

+1

I bet the only thing you run into are maintenance and wear items.
