Once upon a time, I owned a florist shop.

Do not order your flowers online. Choose one that is local. If you order from a 1800Flowers, FTD, Teleflora style website they take almost 50% of the cost. That means the local florist who delivers the flowers are either not making money on the order or they will cut the number of flowers in the arrangement to make money.

My suggestion is to choose someone close to where you want them delivered. You have a couple options: Pick a price range and give an idea of her favorite flowers and let them design it as they see fit or choose something like an arrangement of a single variety such as orchids or roses.

When I owned my shop, the arrangements that got the most praise, were the tropical arrangements. They are different then just roses.

Two good responses thus far.

My 2 cents (from experience)....

What Stephanie said (something different) is key.

Bigger and larger and more expensive is a false value many times in all things romantic.

My girl used to love bunches of artificially dyed daisies like these:

Your florist should have them or they are even in grocery stores. Get a small glass vase for them and a nice sentimental card and you have given her everything she wanted (and needed). Love from your heart and a few special material items to reinforce.

Good luck commander.

Being such a screw up and living by the credo "It easier to beg for forgiveness than to ask for permission", I'm as friendly with my florist as I am with my butcher. Go in, pick something nice out of their book and have it delivered to her office, chicks love showing off flowers.

I've purchased flowers at 6 different Costcos in 3 different states and each one had a florist on hand with bouquet arrangement savvy. And the prices are sooo much lower than a floral shop...same quality, etc.

I also agree that Costco is a great place to get flowers. I buy them for my wife about once a month....she deserves them, for putting up with me

I will have to admit to being lazy and grabbing a bouquet at the supermarket (Vons).

Ask Motion about a flower shop. You won't be disappointed.

Talk to a local florist and ask them about what are the freshest and the best coming into the wholesale flower market. The place where the florists buy their flowers from. There is no point in buying flowers that have been sitting around the shop for days. Thius way the florist knows that you know what you are talkin' about and will get you good quality.

Is Conroys still around? Those things used to be everywhere. I always figured they were a money laundering operation.

Thanks all.
Instead of ordering on-line, I went to the florists right around the corner.
They were very helpful!!

Just generally, from my own experience, buying flowers must be classified as A Very Good Idea, whatever the occasion. Just saying....
