Need some opinions on flag display? and surrounding area??
Volunteer firemen collect bottles (good deed) and return for the money, goes to a slush fund, probably to buy beer. WTF knows.
The collection point is at the fire hall directly below the flag. I am a trustee, a fireman and EMT but this is disgusting and an embarrassment to our town. In my opinion it needs to be moved away from the base of the flag and presented in a less offensive manner but certainly not near the base of the American flag display. Am I being too critical? http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1404495837.jpg I wrote another trustee and hoping we can come up with a better, more attractive solution. I also went up and moved the refuse away and placed it by the side of the building. |
Moving the trash/recycle pile is easy, I'd suggest it.
|
I totally agree.
That's disgusting, and a disgrace. . |
You are not over reacting.
Even without the disrespectful proximity to the flag that's a piss poor way to do it. |
You're not being critical. The US flag is always to be displayed in a dignified manner. This clearly is not "dignified".
As a suggestion, perhaps they can get a permanent collection station built (perhaps the local garbage company could donate a small dumpster, paint it nice, place next to the station away from the flag). |
Thanks for the confirmation on my thoughts. Sometimes I shoot from the hip but this time it was warranted.
|
I'm not some big 'respect the flag!' type, but that looks terrible. Your not overreacting.
|
Yep. Disgusting.
|
Hard to tell form the pic but would it not be possible to put the "recyclables" at least behind the fence directly to the right in the picture?
And yes, that does not look correct or respectful... and that is coming from a dam liberal Kalifornian! |

You are correct Widgeon13 in my opinion it's about respect.
|
You're spot on, if you are going to display the flag, you need to do it as respectfully as possible, piling "trash" around the base is disrespectful. Good move on your part to spot and remedy it.
From the picture, it also appears that the pole itself could use a coat of paint and maybe a gold ball on top. |
Looks like it is put into a forgotten corner of a parking lot. Leave the recycling and move the pole to a more prominent spot. How about right in the middle of the lot with a concrete median and some stone and up-lighting.
|
Good point on the lighting; proper flag etiquette dictates that it be lit if displayed at night.
|
Looks to me like the flag pole is in a terrible location, right next to the trees and the wires.
Removing the collection point really isn't the issue, it would still look like crap. |
My first thought is get more containers or schedule more frequent pickups. As to the flag, well, there are better locations.
|
Frankly it would look like crap even without the flag. They can't get some cans or a dumpster?
|
Put them on the group W bench...
And get that taken care of ASAP. Guys who are willing to rush into burning buildings deserve a little respect, and they will surely figure out what is wrong with that picture, if you put it to them like you put it to us. |
Yep move the collection point....that really looks bad.
