Porsche bike concept

Hi, all;

It's been several years since I've posted (not since I sold my '73 911T R Gruppe car, in fact). I'm writing to see if there is any interest from the members in my producing a limited production run of a bike that I designed, which is based on design elements of the 911. It was designed as part of the Fast Company / Porsche design competition which was part of Porsche's 50 year celebration of the 911. I've been contacted by a wealthy collector who wants one for a Singer 911 he apparently intends to order, and I've been working with a frame builder who is capable of building it to the standards I require (i.e. high-end steel). What do you guys think, would there be a market for a few dozen of these bikes among the following, assuming spectacular build quality? Price with many custom components is likely to creep past $10k...

While it does look nice, at $10K, I don't see much value in it to anybody but a collector who wants it as a showpiece.

I would say that there might be a very limited market for it, but unlikely to be anybody who frequents Pelican. I can't speak for everyone, but my general intuition from being here for many years is that the contributors on this forum look for more form following function and value in what they spend money on.

Good luck though, it has some real pretty touches.

Beautiful collector piece.
Useless for serious cycling.
Beachfront cruiser for the person who has everything.

Looks great. Like the Fuchs inspired spoke lace, crank and other details... duck tail, 917 shift knob.

For the effort, should make some money on it. Keep the Porsche marquee off of it (let the owner add it later), sub it out to a Chinese firm and could build for a fraction of the quote. All the big name Italian bike builders do it.

Thanks all for your comments! I'll post updates if this project goes forward, if there really is a market for a bike like this.

Cheers,
David

collector may buy it but how important is it that it isn't from Porsche itself? Its cruiser bike, so the stress areas isn't all that important. That down tube looks like its going to fold from off the saddle riding coming out of a fast corner.

I think it looks very nice, and I like the Porsche design touches. Bar exhaust outlets? Spectacular!

I look at bikes from a very utilitarian standpoint. Form follows function, above everything else. Design elements are great, but the bicycle is a very simple machine, and the best bikes remain simple. The bike you have here is a piece of functional art. And I would display this bike with my car any day. But to ride, I want that simple machine, the one where every part is constructed in a way that has a particular purpose for riding bike.

Looks real nice but not very practical.

Nice, I like the subtle way the rims emulate Fuchs.
