Fairfield Glade, TN anybody have any info

My wife and I passed through the community of Fairfield Glade in Tennessee coming back from a family reunion this past week. Since we have been mulling over a move from New Yuck for over a year now, we decided to look a bit more closely at Fairfield Glade, but we didn't have the time necessary to see much or talk with anybody there.

I was wondering if anyone here had some information on the place.

Thanks

Zillow shows quite a few pages of foreclosures. That's a red flag. Maybe.

Truila shows double the average TN property crime rate in Cumberland county.
Higher average income and property values though.
Home prices looked quite low at first glance(on the higher side a 3/2 on 20 acres=$190K).

For property taxes, TN was 38th highest in the nation in 2009(or 12th best):

We were also interested in that area to retire. I think it's still a great area and you cant beat the scenery.

I retired 2.5 years ago from the Army. I am still young at only 53 years old. I work part-time for my BIL at his garage door company. So, I am able to move at anytime. I like golf but it is not something I live for or crave. It is fun once or twice a week at a maximum. I currently own a 5 acre equestrian farm near Rochester, NY. I figure that as I get older it will become a PIA to take care of. Both my kids are grown and live in other states (VA & NM) . I was looking at TN due to the lack of income tax which will make my annuity go a bit farther than in NY. I spent last year looking south of Knoxville, but didn't find anything to make me want to sell and go.

Look at Oak Ridge, some culture and lots of really well educated people. Went to High School there.

I work in Oak Ridge. Live a little north east of there. Property taxes are pretty high in OR compared to surrounding cities. But they have (one of) the highest concentration of PhD's in the US.

Matt, if you could not find any place in south knoxville that made you want to move, you didnt look very hard. Maryville is AWESOME!! They have a hospital, cracker barrel and walmart. Minutes away from some of the best roads in the country; foot hills parkway, great smokey national park, tail of the dragon, cherohalla (sp?) skyway, blue ridge parkway, etc... I sill have a house there but moved a little north.

The area you asked about is poster board hill billy country. A few guys I work with live out there. Beautiful country though.

If that's the case, I don't think Fairfield Glade has anything additional to offer. As BK911 says, IMHO the Wears Valley/Townsend/Maryville/Tellico Plains corridor is the spot to be.

Yes..the area around Maryville is beautiful. I drive from Murphy, NC to Knoxville TN at least once a month and pass through there...if I didn't live in a beautiful place, Maryville would be on my radar.

I was looking around Maryville/Townsend last year. My criteria has changed a bit since then though. Our family reunion was in Townsend at my SIL's cabin. It is indeed a beautiful area with all the shopping choices nearby in Maryville. We were looking at the retirement type communities for the annemities, like a pool we don't have to take care of, golf nearby, and neighbors. We have lived in the boonies for 26 years and it would be nice to have some people a bit closer in. Of course like family, you can't pick your neighbors. some are great, others not so much.
