Mounting binoculars on a tripod.
Probably the most unnatural thing I have done with tools. I bought retrofit kit to put my binoculars on a tripod. I called them and they said to remove that front hinge cap with a screwdriver (pry) or yank it off with channel locks. My binos are a few years old now, so the new car smell is gone. But yikes. Pretty sure I jeopardized the warranty.
Personally, I think all binos should have that thread hole. But nooooooooooo! http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/07/11/2yqana2y.jpg Sent via Jedi mind trick. |
10x50 can be hand held, but even your heartbeat can make them bounce around. When you start to get into the big boys like 15x70 and 25x100, I think they all have a screw mount. 8x42 aren't too bad for handholding.

I occasionally use the 10x50 on a tripod. I like these Zeiss bino's. I feel they go well with the car. Even a spare parts pair for the 8x30

Nice collection of German glass there Mister D. Sheesh!
(I never knew until today that I could unscrew that little button on my bino's and expose a 1/4 inch thread for an adapter! Thanks to Vash!) |
Thanks Herr Oberst. I think there is a 12x50 Ziess that I may have to get too :)

Vash,
Why don't you get a spotting scope? A 10x bino can be stabilized easily on a knee or a monopod / shooting stick, rock, etc. Only time I ever need a spotting scope is if I see something with my 10x and then can't put horns on it. I missed a buck one year because of this. Close enough to shoot, but I wasn't sure it had a fork or not. Guys killed it 45 minutes later a ridge over. G |
I use both.

dad dropped our ziess binocks that came with a brass tripod
from the german army ww2 war bootie I think they were 120-20 power the kind you look down into I think they were artillery rangefinders damm sure could not hold them by hand as the unit was very heavy over 50 lbs without the tripod very good for moon or planet watching or boats far way so I am left with a one side mono 7x50 ziess and B&L navy areo's 7x50 also ww2 but our sides |
