New Spam Phone calls

This new-to-me telemarketing scheme started with me about three weeks ago. I get a call from 203-204-2992 that says, "To enter a conference, press 1."

I've never "pressed 1" but looked the number up and there are many complaints. Most on the lines of:
"They said they were Vehicle Protection Direct and asked me about a car I owned 2 cars ago! Said they wanted to extend my warranty and called me at work! "

I thought of a scam myself that might make me some coin. If I start up a reverse look-up for a fee web site and get my computer to robocall a bunch of numbers, I can get people to pay $7.95 for a reverse look-up to find out who all those annoying calls are from. "Hey, I checked the number and found out who's been pestering you - it's ME! Thanks for the $7.95."
Ground floor opportunity for savvy investors here.

LOL wd!
I've read where 'pressing the button' results in forwarding you to an overseas service ($5-15 min fee).
It doesn't even have to be a 1-900 #. Not sure how that's even legal.
Search "area code doesn't exist" to learn about telemarketer phone# spoofing, which use your domestic US telephony company to automatically bill you and collect.

Neither have I, but there are a zillion for-fee lookup services, so somebody must be paying.

My cell gets spam calls sometimes as many as 8 per day. Rachel with card services keeps trying to scam me.
The calls come from various area codes but there is one in my area code that sends the majority. I got a completely different scam call from the same number wanting information on my business in order to put me at the top of Google pages.
I have dialed the local number and a guy answered and seemed genuinely bewildered that I was getting calls from his number. j
Almost like my number has been sold on the scammer market and now they are using dummy numbers to call. Its weird.
