Replacement values and insurance.

I'm having my ride painted. Decided to keep the same color. My declared value is $33K with State Farm.

The bad.....grey market, back date kit, 3.6 powered, no AC, it a cab.

The good ..... it's a cab, low miles 3.6, newer top, fresh paint, 16x7 and 8s with fresh rubber, Carrera sway bars, upgraded T-bars, Recaro SPDs, roll bar, duck tail, fresh 915 with factory LSD, coco mats, premium sounds, H4s, Wevo shifter, etc.

NOT a sale thread....but if it got totaled, I don't think $33 would replace it. State Farm isn't budging on an increase.

Besides changing companies.....is there an easy to convince them with say an independent assessor or something?

Have you asked if they'll accept an appraisal for a higher value? My ins. co. allowed me to up my coverage without appraisal, within their pre-determined value range, which was really wide - something like between $15 and $40k.

Farmers will only insure to appraised value which is way too low and there are only like 2 appraisers in Texas (I'm sure there are more but not many). My agent said I can go through J.C. Taylor for antique/hotrod insurance and not affect the special rates and umbrella I have with Farmers. Hopefully this will allow for a more appropriate level of insurance. Now I just need to get off my ass and do it.

JB.

Why not an agreed value collector policy?

I have American Collectors, number of my buddies use it or Hagerty.

There are some restrictions but you name your price and they shoot you a number.

What Saucy said. I use AC for my Series and the Lotus, they ask what value and tell me how much it'll be...to easy!

I was offered what my 76 was insured for earlier this year... I decided I couldn't live with that so I bumped up the agreed to value.

This. My '88 Targa was with Leland West, they give a great PCA discount BTW. I gave them a list of the car's modifications and recent work done, which help to justify the agreed value. They had no issue with mine at $30k. Unlike some of the others, they also allow you to drive your car to work if desired.

I currently have a 33K agreed value. That's not the problem. I want to have a higher value due to recent increase of SCs and the new paint job.

I guess I will look into an appraiser and submit it to State Farm and see what shakes.

It's not a true agreed value policy if adjusters are involved.

My call went like this.

Your car is a 78 911 targa?

-yes

Stock or heavily modified?

-mostly stock, I'll email you a few photos.

Ok, what do you want it insured for?

-$26 crackers.

Ok, very good.

Yup, if you want an increase to your agreed value policy they should simply tell you how much more your premium will be. I assume at some point they will put a stop to it (I want to insure my SC for $10 million please), but insuring to your stated value is sorta the point of the entire thing.
