Gotta Love Google/Amazon
Been in the house 17 years, about 15 years ago one of the garage door openers died (stripped nylon gears), Sears said they no longer carried parts for it. Don't use it much so let it go. On a whim about a week ago I googled the model # and Amazon pops up a rebuild kit with video instruction on rebuilding it. $25 delivered.

I had exactly the same experience a few weeks ago.
My unit had stripped the a gear so I entered the unit model number, just to see the cost of a replacement unit and the first search result was the gear replacement kit from Amazon. ! hour to replace the gear and $20 later and free prime shipping I have a working unit again that will hopefully last another 18 years. Love the service Amazon provides!

Did the same thing a few weeks ago but it was the door sensors. No one carried them because the opener was built before 1997. Got a replacement kit for $30. Had it installed in less than an hour. It is the Porsche side door so it was pretty frikkin' important that I fix fast.

G'day!

eBay is a pretty good resource as well.
I just received in the mail today a gently used fleece pullover that is designed for use in surfing and other water sports - a discontinued item that is no longer being made. I wore out my old one and on a whim did an eBay search and there it was - the only one on eBay - and in almost perfect condition in my size! Come in handy this Fall/Winter on those chilly evenings when the waves are fun but I don't want to skin it or wear rubber.

Just skip google entirely, and just go to amazon.com and search for what you want.
Amazon is google's biggest threat because people can do exactly this. |
