Online dating is humbling

So, I decided to try online dating since I'm online quite a bit during a normal work day and thought why the hell not and have the internet work for me?

Boy, was I wrong! lol.

I do ok in the real world, but holy **** is this a whole different kettle of fish! I'm absolutely humbled and frankly, a little amazed that there are people who actually stick with it.

I tried it about 10 years ago. What a nightmare. Most people want to find someone they want to spend time with and stop dating, but I encountered a local woman for whom it was a hobby. She was honest enough to tell me she liked it and had no interest in pairing up with anyone. She was at if for years.

Not having tried it, why is it so difficult/humbling? Are people suddenly becoming perfect in every way?

I got out of the dating pool about the time this was become more mainstream and accepted. I'm curious to know what you're referring to.

It's an environment where everyone is looking for somebody who's perfect and will dismiss people whom they would normally consider if they met in person.

It's harsh, but everyone is very, very judgmental.

I no longer have a Porsche.

I drive a yellow MR2 Turbo, but prefer to show up in a Matrix.

Found more than a few acceptable and still see them, there ARE a preponderance of screwballs. Not just redheads, fat broads, bible pounders, neurotics and religious/political whack jobs.......

I could see that... with the internet, it's very easy to click "next" and move along. So glad I'm out of that....feel for you man..

Me too. I wouldn't have a Porsche again if it were not for my wife I found online.
The first wife is why I had to get rid of the last Porsche. Internet rules!

Just lick your eyebrows while they take your profile picture.

Serial, the world is full of superficial or shallow people.

You should feel blessed that many of these people are clicking past your profile so they can go ruin someone else's life. It's like a filter that works in your favor and that'll help you end up with a real person.

Besides, it's all an exercise til ya find the right one anyhow and she's already been picked out for you.
You just gotta kill the time til then. Keep the faith brother.

Also found my current wife online.

After my divorce, I figured I'd try the online thing. Met a lot of really cool women, and some total whack jobs. I was honest up front and let them know I was not looking for any kind of "real" relationship since I was recently divorced. I still dated women I met the "traditional" way, too, but online just adds to the pool of potentials.

At the risk of sounding like an ass...I was "loosely seeing" about 6 women when I met my wife. Our first date was the night before I went on a work trip to Minnesota for a couple weeks. The next day, I called each of the other women I'd been seeing and told them we couldn't hang out anymore. I knew from that first date that this one was a keeper.

For those who found it a success, what was your target age ranges? I have a feeling that the landscape is much different for late 20s-mid 30s compared to 40 and above.

In the younger age brackets, I feel like I should be taller, richer and whiter. lol

I listed "must have a pulse"......then sifted thru the shallow end of the gene pool.

probably the case. im 27. i've been doing it on and off for 2 years now, met/dated as young as 20, and as old as 31. at this point, im looking for 25 to low 30s really.

seriously, have a couple of good pictures of yourself, put something in your profile more interesting then "i like good food and comedy movies" and don't act like an idiot when messaging, and it works well.

in many cases, i think people don't take it seriously enough. they commit so little to it, and then they get **** in response so they trash talk it. you have to take it seriously enough to get a couple of half decent pictures of yourself, possibly of you doing interesting things. then have your profile have a few unique things, conversation starters, and then don't ever go negative or sexual in your messaging and it works pretty well.

its like getting a job, you don't half ass your resume do you? and if you do have a ****ty resume, what kind of job do you think your going to get?

^ I have 10 good photos of me around the world, laughing with friends, playing guitar, CU selfie, and paddleboarding.

I'm not half assing anything.

Not to play the race card, but every woman is looking a white 6 foot tall guy making 100k. That could also be due to location. Florida's got a bunch of wackos, you know.

But then again, I can't blame them for having high standards and preferences.

Well, I was 32 at the time, so was looking for mid 20's to mid 30's.

Having said that, I am tall and white...

People are for more aware of their requirements and expectations after a failed marriage.

As a result of this fact most people on-line are very picky.

You need to be persistent and have thick skin to stay with it.

I have no interest in that world.

One more thing: the odds of you actually liking someone are about 10%, same for the other party. The odds you will both like each other are then about 1% as I see it.
