I'm pregnant

I started a thread a few years ago regarding having children after forty.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/off-topic-discussions/297608-children-after-40-a.html?highlight=children I got some fantastic responses. I was not enthusiastic about the prospect but my wife wanted one more. Life takes its twists and turns and nothing ever developed. My wife had some lady problems a few years back and the doc (with me in the room) tells her she won't have kids again. I have my two daughters aged 10 and 25 so my basket is full. My wife, while disappointed realized that was the end of baby making.

Fast forward to July 1, on my 48th birthday my wife tells me that we have a bun in oven. Oh Jeebus, elation, dread, thrilled, scared, the whole gamut of emotions in a 10 second period.

There goes all retirement plans, travel to exotic locals, multi track days ect.... but that's ok. Life, what a long strange trip it is.

>I'm pregnant

No, your wife is pregnant, you're screwed ;-) But congrats, very cool. Stock up on sleep, I bet you forgot how hard the first year is !

Wow! I'm in a very similar boat (only my boat is a little older than yours). I have a son from a previous marriage that is 24. My current wife and I have been married for 12 years. We have a 10 yr-old daughter and a 4 yr-old son. After my son was born, we decided that was enough. She had a procedure performed to permanently prevent any further pregnancies (not a tubal ligation, but something supposedly equally effective).

Last February we find out she's pregnant again. I'm going to turn 50 next month. I try not to view this through a selfish lens, but a lot of my plans have changed, needless to say.

Congrats bi-v. Congrats Mike. I gotta say I really wouldn't want to trade in my empty-nester lifestyle at this point. SmileWavy

Thanks for the well wishes guys and gal, I will pass them onto Ms. bivenator.

That's a great story Mike, congrats to you. It is hard not to view thru a selfish lens. It is hard to imagine life with a new baby at this point. I expect after the arrival then I will not be able to envision life without the new baby. That's life.

BlueSkyJaunte 07-22-2014 09:03 AM

Congrats! Our 3rd is due in mid-Aug. I'll be 40 in Nov. My wife has informed me that this is absolutely our last - she can't handle another 9 months of non-stop puking.

I can't blame her.

JavaBrewer 07-22-2014 09:19 AM

Congratulations and all the best!

A gift from Heaven! And so much more than any of the other things you mentioned. Congratulations on your good fortune! :-)
