Anyone know about the reliability of the 2014 Chevy V6?
Been searching a bit on the web but not finding much info.
Long story short love my little Miata and need to hang onto it for a few years to make it worth all the $$$ I put into it to get her to my liking. However looking down the road going to need/want something with a smoother ride and easier to get my old bones in and out of. Really, really like the look of the 2014 Camaro and with the V6 they claim 27MPG highway. I know the rear visibility sucks but I grew up driving my mom and dad's 70's GM product so I am used to driving with my head on a swivel. Anyone here own a new(ish) Chevy V6 and if so how reliable is it (I hate a car that has to be in the shop every few months)? Thanks in advance, |
The 3.6L V6 has been around for a decade. Generally, a good motor. The earlier examples had some issues with timing chain stretch. A 2014 shouldn't suffer from that malady. Very little has changed to make a 2014 a greater risk than earlier versions. The Camaro is near the end of its product cycle, which is typically a good thing for reliability. GM has a 5 year / 100,000 mile warranty on powertrain.

If this is the same engine manufactured by Holden (GM) Australia as used in the Holden Commodore / Chevrolet SS then it should be bulletproof.
I think the engine designation is LFX (3564cc displacement) |
Thanks guys... now the really hard part... selling my wife on a Camaro... I'm balding so no chance of a mullet.
The Camaro has very high crash ratings so I will try to pitch it as a safety thing. ;) |
it's ok...shaved heads are the mullets of the 2000's

I love the little Miata... little being the word.. I have dubbed it the "microcar"... it's diminutive size cuts both ways, parking and getting through traffic is a breeze... however being almost invisible to larger vehicles requires constant vigilance, and freeway ride quality is less than ideal. |
Very good engine.

Well, i grew up a Chevy guy, Dad, Grandfather, all Chevy or GMC trucks. Just recently shed myself of my last Chevy work truck. Seriously, it was a horrible truck. I even had a few discussions with a GM rep about it. Now, I'm running three Ford F250's ( no Diesels ) 2003, 2006 & 2014. Great work trucks.

Have you driven one? The drive I took in a V6 camaro left me thoroughly underwhelmed... Seriously, I think I'd enjoy a Miata more...

And a standard Miata is rated at 130HP at the crank... that is about 100HP at the rear wheels. Not that I am complaining, I grew up driving all kinds of cars... My parent drove GM but my friends drove very small European automobiles with small engines. |
