You've got very good taste - that's a fine place to stay. Yes I recognise it well! - the second brown door in the left of that photo is my parents front door! :D |
On my 1st trip to Europe, my favorite meal was dinner at a Hungarian restaurant in Munich....Will visit some day for sure......

Hungary and the war...
My maternal grandfather was prisoner of the soviets at the end of WWII. Since he was a surgeon, he stayed alive and in relatively better conditions than most. After 2 year's captivity his jet black hair was integrally white. Did not talk at all about that period. My parents fled the country, not wanting their children to grow up in a communist-crushed country. Today, as I write this, my son is spending 3 weeks at lake Balaton with my parents, in the house that the communist party confiscated from my paternal grandfather in the late 50's, because he was displaying signs of capitalist well-being. |
Yet again, the collective knowledge of this board comes through.
Truly amazing. |

Been to Eger a few times - the castle / fortress is a cool place. Interesting fact about the fortress: down in the bowels of the structure, they had soilders stationed every few meters, each with peppercorns sitting on the top of a drum. When the peppercorns started to dance, they would sound the alarm that the enemy was charging. Talk about a low-tech early defense warning system! Good luck in your pursuits and in finding more out about your roots! -Zoltan. |
