motorcycle backpacks?

Often I see guys riding a crotch rocket with a backpack. They are wearing a motorcycle jacket. My motorcycle jacket is leather....the mesh one has a foam backpad.

Are these regular backpacks or soemthing special to fit over the gear? Seems like a regular one wouldn't have enough room in the arm holes.

Get one with longer straps.
Next case.
.

BTW, that's what I did when I wore a bp on a moto.
As I recall, I bought the same sized straps and lengthened the originals.

I always thought it was a pain to get the shoulder straps to slide over the shoulder pads in my moto jackets, so I use a bicycle messenger bag instead.

Panniers, or at least soft bags. I've used a back pack just a couple of times, they suck on a bike.

I don't want a back pack. I have a set of cases for my bike. I just see guys out and thought about it. I'm on a long car vacation is I have time to think up all sorts of things.

Motorcycle gear manufacturers like dainese and others have backpacks for motorcycle gear that will fit over motorcycle jackets. These backpacks usually have chest and waist straps.

I used a tank bag, and a plain jane Jansport. Tank bag was stolen rather quickly, still have the backpack.

I was able to use a regular backpack (swissgear laptop bag) if I needed to, but generally rode with my Shoei backpack instead. It did have marginally longer straps and had both a chest and waist strap.
In hindsight, I wish I had got something more like this: Cortech by Tour Master Super 2.0 Backpack :: MotorcycleGear.com
My Shoei bag was great at holding a helmet, but the large single opening meant everything I put in there got mixed up by the time I arrived.

I like it for adv riding on the KTM. I use the hard bags for clothes and the backpack for stuff I want to have with me on or off the bike.

The hydro pack is nice for trail play time.

Crack the throttle and a back pack would suck you off. lol.

For a sport bike.... depending and if you could find the room, would go for a tank bag.

I toured and commuted on one of these. Honda had a clever latch system and neat integrated suit case handles. They sealed well. For trips, I added a tank bag and duffle on the rear. Circa '82

These are stock photos but years ago on my scoot, added a ATB turbo kit and a little extra Ahhh, the 1980's...

A backpack isnt going to pull you off the bike.

Just get something smaller that fits snugly. ive seen some climbers with nice smaller ones. I bet some motorcycle retailers have some perfect ones. i hate tank bags and use a backpack to carry my phone, wallet, water bottle, etc....

I use a regular backpack on my dirt bikes......No problem getting over the jacket padding....I just don't like a lot of weight in it.........Like when I carry a lot of water on an extra 1/2 gallon of fuel.....

I use a Ogio Mach 5 No Drag. It is very aero, good looking, fits great even on long rides but gives up some interior room over reg backpacks due to the low profile. Fits enough for an overnight somewhere. The key for me is the chest and waist straps. Once adjusted i don't really feel it.

one shouldnt have any problems wearing a backpack over leathers.

i used to do it all the time over my Vansons. it isnt super comfy, not on a sportsbike. the added weight on my wrist got old fast. but for a quick trip for groceries..no problem

i used to wear one while riding, but wondered about what could possibly happen in a crash. landing on the backpack can't be a good thing. switched to tank and tail bags after that, even on the 749.

I use a Kriega R25 backpack. It is specifically made to easily fit over motorcycle gear.
