Congratulations. That is a considerable achievement. I imagine everybody around you likes and respects you more.

Good work.

Does food taste noticeably better to you?

So you go to the beach as a reward, nice.

Bill Douglas 08-03-2014 01:00 PM

Great news. Now you are having fun doing other things.

gassy 08-03-2014 01:26 PM

Nice. 6 yrs 3 months here. Don't even think about it anymore. Feel so much better and don't miss it at all. Kudos, 126.

First of all thanks for all the support! I know I have said some nasty things on this forum and I am truly sorry. My drinking got out of control about 3 years ago. I was a social drinker but it evolved from 6pm to 5pm to 4pm, then at lunch, then in the morning. My 35 year marriage was falling apart, I was embarrassing my family so I knew it was time and boy am I glad I did. I am a completely new person and wish I had done this sooner.

Por_sha911 08-03-2014 02:58 PM

Awesome.

I just clicked off my 32nd year this spring. It is doable as long as you keep committed to it one day at a time.

KFC911 08-03-2014 03:06 PM

I think without a doubt this might be thread of the year...Congrats to you 126coupe :)

What I found was the alcohol was covering up and taking the place of normal thinking, including handling problems, success, generally making decisions about everything. I quit the beginning of October, 1978 and it would not have been possible without a lot of help. Over the years I have had lots of things happen but so far none of them have been worth drinking over and that is the bottom line! Keep up the good work and be careful to not go too far the other direction.......

Best advice you will ever hear. People find it amazing that I have booze in the house, that being around drinkers is not a problem and they can't believe I don't pass along the tea totaler speeches.
A reformist is worse than the addict.

This is very sad news.......I had hoped to pass thru your area and we'd go have a drink???

Lake, this is not sad news, it's great news, and you can still go "have a drink" with 126, but he won't be boozing, he'll just be enjoying your good company. He'll be the one drinking something NA, that's the only difference.

SmileWavy It's a JOKE....I'd luv to have a Virgin Mary with 126 and talk about our old Benz' SmileWavy

Oh Haha 08-03-2014 04:49 PM

1 more congrats on your accomplishment.

I am lucky to never have been drawn into that addiction as we have several what I would consider alcoholics in my family and my wife's.

Keep it going and know you have support here as well as your real life family.

Seahawk 08-03-2014 05:01 PM

Kudos.

Take an even strain, day by day.

With all due respect to the above people, you do whatever YOU NEED to stay sober. If it means having NO booze in the house, DO IT. If it means being a telling others what has happened to you, DO IT.

I'm fairly sure that the above people don't wish you harm but its wrong to ask you to do things that works for them. You have to do what you need.

This is one time where its OK to be focused on yourself so that you will stay sober. Don't worry about what other people will think. Some of my "friends" wanted me to go back to being the same fun guy I was before. They didn't care about what drink or drugs was doing to me. They just wanted me to be fun for them.

Go "too far" if that's what it takes for you. I will gladly "offend" anyone that wants me to be what they want if it puts me back in bondage.
