Actually, some *****es Brew at 8am would be pretty cool.

wouldn't bother me but I wake the rooster anyway. I, myself usually wait until 9 on sat and 10 on sun before making that kind of noise, thats just me

aigel 08-16-2014 02:14 PM

8 am is perfectly legal but may be a little early for some neighbors. I don't think it'll kill you to start at 9? There has to be prep work and clean up you can do before 9. I always try to do my best to please the neighbors. That way you can ask them for a favor in the future. You won't hear me doing much before 9 on weekends. If I get up early, it is to go hunting or exercising, which I do away from home.

Always remember that the poor schmuck may have been sent by his wife ... I would have asked when he would be happier with the noise and tell him he can come by next weekend at that time with some fresh Starbucks drinks to watch. :D

I'm usually up before 7am on weekends, just habit. I think it's about time to introduce a pet rooster into the neighborhood. That'll get everyone on the same schedule.

I was not happy about it but my neighbor is a decent guy who never gives me a hard time so I just shrugged it off and let it go. I actually got a lot more done today since I was up early anyway.
Do you normally get along with this guy? Have you been a good neighbor otherwise? If so I side with you and say that 8 AM is fine. Some people look for things to complain about

I'm that new guy in the neighborhood (1 year). I don't know him, was going to go ask a couple questions about my pool as he has a pool company.
I'm not a bad neighbor but I am not invisible either with a gaggle of teenagers at my house. That being said I don't have the control I usually like anymore.
I do work on my car lots, usually in the garage out of sight for the most part.
My next door doesn't like my boys and their friends because of a gummy bear incident early on....I don't remember. Guy behind me doesn't like kids having fun in the pool so I've heard from them. Other than that I'm ok.....at least I think so, like I said I don't know while I'm at work the cats(kids) go nuts sometime I think. When I get home the kitchens clean and things are not too bad.

Usually I'll do stuff during the week and avoid making any noise on a Sat/Sun morning, but everyone doesn't have that flexibility. Professional lawn care guys hit it early...just the way it is. Now in my younger daze, if you heard loud music early it just meant the party wasn't over yet :p

scottmandue 08-16-2014 03:18 PM

Ah HA! Now it comes out... You are the guy with the gummy bears!

Knock, knock
Hello?
Hi, my name is Chris and I love gummy bears, do you love gummy bears too?

This board usually crucifies people who don't address the problem face to face. At least he didn't do something stupid like leave an anonymous note in your box.

That said, unless it was a have-to situation, I try to wait until 9 am. Bring him a bottle of soda (or whatever you drink) and tell him you appreciate him doing the right thing by addressing it face to face instead of whining behind your back.

Tervuren 08-16-2014 04:58 PM

For some, Saturday morning is about the only time to catch up on missing sleep for the rest of the week.

It not uncurtious until you have an idea of what is acceptable though.

HOA neighborhood? Ours is spelled out clearly in our covenants. 8am - 6pm Monday thru Saturday and Noon - 6pm Sunday.

8am is too early.
9am on a saturday is also (in some places), unless it's needed construction.

That being said, mine is probably the loudest house in the neighbor and I try to keep it to a dull roar these days.
My neighbor has come over a few times then I apologized and altered work times.
That's a great neighbor imo.

Oracle 08-16-2014 05:25 PM

c'mon.. be nice to everyone around... weekend is when we all sleep a bit longer.. starting at 9:00 is appropriate for weekends.

No better advice.

On routine work, 9am is a good floor. There are times, however, on the farm that weather and other events dictate O dark thirty tractor starts or late nights under the lights.

Everybody understands.

Start at 9 am and any way you can sand in the garage? Move the other cars out, tarp stuff, wear respirator etc?

onewhippedpuppy 08-16-2014 05:54 PM

8 am here, game on.

Bugsinrugs 08-16-2014 06:28 PM

Saturdays are when working people get things done around the house. There are new houses going up around me and these guys start around 7 am and do it seven days a week. Doesn't bother me a bit.

quattrorunner 08-16-2014 06:46 PM

No way I could sand in my garage. I have too many things in there. I plan to do the following:
Tell him sorry for waking him and
Start at 9:30. When I have time. Never
I usually have time after work. So I'm going to keep doing that. 9:30 max.
He's not getting a dr pepper though. He's a dick.

LeeH 08-16-2014 08:54 PM

Phoenix has a noise ordinance. Nothing noisy is supposed to happen between 11pm and 7am. Due to the summer heat, it is very common to have landscapers mowing and blowing at 7am any day of the week.

Steve Carlton 08-16-2014 09:30 PM

Bring him a triple-shot Starbucks latte at 7am and tell him you're sorry. He'll be bouncing off the walls by 7:30 and you can get an early start.
