8am is acceptable IMO even if its Saturday. The sanding isn't every weekend, so he's just got his bunched up too tight. As neighbors, they should lighten up and move on with life. No one died today, its just an electric sander:rolleyes:. Many of you know, I am involve in residential construction. I knock on the neighbor's doors and leave a my card and inform with them so we can all to keep peace. I still get crap, notes, dirty looks, you name it. I just kill them with kindness but really like to burn their fooking house down. The classic one was an older guy spat on my window because we parked our cars on his side of the street because it was street cleaning day.

More like ex lax.

look 171 08-16-2014 10:08 PM

Its just nice to hear that you didn't blow up. Instead you smiled and moved on with life. Now you know who the ass holes are.

speeder 08-16-2014 10:16 PM

I'm guessing that sander is pretty fookin loud.

quattrorunner 08-16-2014 10:30 PM

To be honest it is getting loud. It's going to drop a brush soon so it's vibrating more than normal.
But still, it's really not that bad.

TCracingCA 08-16-2014 10:57 PM

I would say

If prior to 10am, then just keep the garage closed. Or until someone else is lawn mowing or has their kids out yelling and screaming.

But if you are bigger and badder than that other guy, I wouldn't worry about it! :D

How loud can an electric sander be? I have a Dewalt palm sander that you probably can't hear from 10' away. If it were an loud whiny air sander along with a air compressor running constantly, then I might understand.

quattrorunner 08-17-2014 08:40 AM

When it is placed on a body panel the decibels go up.

This kind of comment ends up with a thread being shut down. I thought we were all adults here.

I don't know who he was talking about. Shut it, I got my answer. Nothing till 9ish. Nothing after 9:30. Done.

wdfifteen 08-17-2014 12:12 PM

I don't see 8 AM as a problem, but I'm a morning person. OTOH I have vowed not to be the first one within earshot of my house to start making racket on Sunday. I'm pretty safe until about 9, when the chainsaws and lawn mowers start up.

vonsmog 08-17-2014 03:45 PM

Are you trying to sand all the paint off of your car? there are faster, better, quieter ways to do it. Then a light sanding after, so the primer sticks better. Maybe your just doing it wrong and your neighbor wants to point it out!!

No no no, how do you say it in English - tabs street fighter, he mean focker, he out to get ya if you eat more than your share at the buffet.

quattrorunner 08-17-2014 05:53 PM

No I was sanding bondo from a wide body job. It really wasn't much time with the sander. I'm hand sanding now.

IS300 08-17-2014 06:04 PM

[QUOTE=scottmandue;8216759]I'm OK with 8AM, but then I'm a morning person... I would throw out the caveat that give it a little bit of a break on holidays... some guy broke out his leaf blower to dry off his truck early AM on Thanksgiving... not crack of dawn but I was all kicking back on the porch with a mug of coffee and sun was shining and birds were singing and I was all ahhhhh... then WRRRRRRRRRRRRR.

Every lawn service that comes to our area is a "weekend warrior." They are people who have a regular job who make extra bucks by mowing lawns all weekend. They're out pretty much dawn to dark and beyond on Saturday and from 9 or so till dark on Sunday. Some neighbors got together and sent a letter around requesting that people not make mower/leaf blower racket after 4 or 5 on weekends but it went nowhere. I'm lucky that I have a flexible schedule and can enjoy morning peace and quiet on weekdays. Weekends I just join in the mechanical chorus, but I do shut down at 4 PM.

My neighbour John many years ago(now deceased) used to cut his grass at 6:30 am. His wife used to say "he's a chicken". It did not bother me as it was once in a while.
However years later his daughter inherited the house and her dogs bark between 8am and 11pm. Now that bothers me.

Pretty simple for me. I'd ask why he doesn't have any interests or projects to be doing.

16 hours a day barking. That's a lot.

Well thanks for listening. Not exactly 16/7 but intermittently. I complained to the City.
They investigated and found that the three dogs were not licenced. So she had to licence them. Since then the husband passed away and the new man has kicked out the son who had the yappiest dog. So things are somewhat better.

I say to myself if I want total peace I would buy an acreage. I will take this area in spite of some noise because of the conveniences of the city. It's a lot about give and take but there are limits.....

I bought one of these to train my dogs not to bark. They've learned - not perfect but they're much much better, so I don't need it much anymore. I have a neighbor who WILL NOT control his dog's barking. One night I though, "I wonder ..." Yep. Hang it on the fence and it works like a charm. It may not be legal, so you didn't hear it from me.

That is awesome. Apparently sold out right now. Not surprising. Yes neighbours are down to two dogs. Even though we have had these dogs next door to us for years they do not get any smarter. They don't recognize us and bark at us anyways when we are in the backyard. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/support/smileys/uzi.gif These are not legal either....

Where I live it's so damned hot out, that a lot of folks start doing landscaping at 5am. It's probably technically against the law and the HOA regs. But it's a fact of life in extreme weather states. I doubt anyone in a cold weather states complains about early morning snow blowers. Garbage trucks hit my neighborhood at about 6:30am and make some noise.

yazhound 08-18-2014 11:57 AM

Dogs shows in England do not start til 10am because any earlier would be uncivilized.

I am heavy sleeper so that may not bother me, depending how close. But 8 in morning on weekend, if neighbor woke me me with noise, regardless of reason, unless an emergency - would piss me off.

SiberianDVM 08-18-2014 12:23 PM

If I can sleep through my GF's snoring, your sander wouldn't bother me a bit. But I can't sleep past 7AM anyway as my back starts hurting.

I think 8Am is plenty reasonable, but I would lose the music.

My S.O. thought it was ok to let the dog go ballistic in the backyard on 6:30am Saturday mornings.
Ughhh.
I had to train her as well.

I have a free Ultrasonic Bark Control Collar by PetSafe - PBC00-13925 for anyone who needs one. Small/medium dogs.
PM me an address and I'll put it in the mail.

I think our noise laws are 10am on the weekends, I wish I could sleep in....
