Where do you buy physical gold?
There appears to be a buttload of online places sending gold to your house - probably not the best idea ... are there banks selling physical gold? How do you know for sure you aren't buying a tungsten filled surprise instead of a solid piece of bullion?

Coin sellers are pretty good if they also buy and trade. If you want new uncirculated/never sold stuff there is a markup like anything else but if you buy previously owned/traded coins or bullion, sometimes they'll let it go Cheeper. Maybe even spot.
I buy gold every day in my jewelry store. I have regulars that buy it from me for spot and I'm happy to sell it to them as I buy for less than that. Banks don't often deal with metal. They're not based on it anymore. Pm me for more details if needed. |
Quattrorunner, I didn't know you are in the business. My father was a custom jeweler. We used to go to all the trade shows in LA and Vegas.

George, if you really need to buy gold, I can sent you to a place downtown in the Jewelry Mart (up stairs in those buildings). They are not really open to the public, but we used to buy from them all the time. Now, I don't think they will have hundreds gold bullions sitting in a safe so don't expect that. They are the real deal, not pot metal mixed into it, all legit and certified. Now diamonds, the wholesaler will pour 100 stones out of a bag onto a tray in front of you. I can get you in those places too if needed to make your wife happy.

My father is the same way, he still make things in his garage workshop for the grand kids. I even use it sometimes for stuff. Its funny how my sister, mom, and myself (my wife included) are not interested in Jewelry. Thank goodness for that. Love me Timex. |
I am thinking led might be a better way to go.......

I would advise against buying it from a shady pawnshop. SmileWavy

You have to do some research. Canada's Scotia Mocatta is one of the largest volume dealers in NA. I have dealt with their retail store here in Toronto but they also have an online presence. A quick search brought up this article in Forbes that lists some sources.
Buy from a reputable source. Only buy the easy products - American Eagles, Canadian Maple Leafs etc from trusted refiners. You can buy coins & bars in many different sizes. I even have a 1/10 oz good luck piece that sits on my desk. Keep it in it's original packaging & keep your receipts - both make it much easier to sell, since it has to be recognized & verified before you get maximum cash. And be aware that gold is a long term hedge & usually not a good vehicle for quick profits. And you have storage costs unless you bury it in the backyard. You must retrieve it in the Bering Sea
