Another Toyota pickup question
 

Here's my pickup. It's a '92 with about 150K, runs good, I bought it new, 22RE motor so it's not fast, but it's unmolested (it's even got an SR5 interior I put in years ago which is still in nice shape, no tears, clean) and it gets good mileage.....

Thing is, the paint has failed completely where it was damaged and repaired years ago, (passenger side front door and fender) and it doesn't get garaged, sits in the sun all day, so it really needs a total respray (truck only, shell was painted 2 years ago). A couple of small dings would be repaired at the same time...

What say the collective? Is it worth spending a decent amount of dough to have it resprayed? (Couple of thousand...I'd take all the glass out, remove bumpers, trim, etc...trailer it to the body shop). I don't really envision a new truck anytime soon, so it will remain my dd for the foreseeable future....

I like the truck, looks good to me, it's a good runner, people always want to know if it's for sale....

I waffle about spending half the truck's worth on paint. Yeah, people do it all the time, but, man, really?

It's a great truck and it sounds like you are pretty attached to it and will hold onto it. I'd do it right the first time and drive another 10-15 years.

If you plan on keeping it, return on investment is irrelevant. If $2-3k gives you a truck that you're happy with for the next 10 years, that's far better than losing thousands in depreciation on a new one.

I would just drive it and enjoy it. Nothing screws up great old old truck like fixing it up.

I had a 1991 version of that truck in grey. Long story. Gave it to my Dad in 1999 cause he wanted and needed it. He moved to a place in 2007 and gave it back. I gave it to my best friends son since it I really had no use for it and the young man loved the truck.

He was a junior in HS. He went to the Naval Academy, and is now finishing flight school. I went to his wedding two weeks ago and the truck came up over and over. He still drives it and his young bride has learned to drive a manual on it.

Still has all the old scuff marks, signs of wear and tear. My Dad tried to fill in all the paint dings from road wear on the front of the truck and got the paint code wrong. The truck looks like it has measles. I put a black bumper on it and got rid og the plastic bed guard.

But we all love the thing. It was my commuter back and forth to the Sikorsky Factory in CT as well as to DC for years. I stacked miles on the thing, all with the R-22 in full cough.

I asked Austin if he had any plans to neaten the thing up.

Nope.

I guess my point is, unless the truck needs the paint to stay healthy, roll with it.

It looks to be in great shape. I'd be happy to drive it as is.
I'll trade you my 2003 double cab even for it as is.
The frame might break in half on the way to Portland.....but the paint is perfect.

White- easy reshoot. Go for it. $3k for a like-new truck?
