Can you "Hot tank" stainless steel?

Is it safe to clean stainless parts in a hot tank?

Thinking about how to get my SSIs clean. Soda blasting was suggested, but I'd like to get rid of any oil residue inside the heat exchangers as well.

I think that a lot of "hot tanking" cleaners use sodium hydroxide as one of the primary caustic agents. Certain stainless steels will turn black/blue when subjected to hot sodium hydroxide.

Soda blasting does well on stainless. Perhaps start with a solvent bath for the oil residue?
