Totally on cloud 917 right now....

Totally mind blowing and completely awesome! A 917 Porsche in Gulf livery that is owned by Bruce Canepa was shown at Monterey this year after a complete overhaul..... It now wears one of my shift knobs!!!!

A bunch of you know that I make 917 inspired shift knobs for 911's and other cars. Even though the knob in the 917 below is not an accurate replica - I have made one out of balsa and birch that is identical to the original knobs, but I've never really posted a pic as of yet - I am thrilled beyond words that one of my shift knobs was inspiring enough to be used in a 917 restoration.

WOW! That is awesome Dave and you have very right to be tickled pink with pride.
Seeing your piece finish off its original inspiration. Too cool!

Cheers Richard

Thank you, Richard!

As I mentioned on FB, I'm anonymously famous, but I'll accept that. :D Time to get in touch with Bruce and see if he is interested in the accurate replica I made.

Dang Dave, that is cool. Put that lathe to work some more.

slodave 08-26-2014 11:40 PM

Thanks, Jeff!!

I am!!! I received an order for 30 knobs today. The lathe is in use just about every day of the week now.

Excellent, Dave! Congratulations!

Looks very nice indeed. Obviously craftsmanship of the higher order. :)

Great stuff Mr Dave.

So, What do you charge for one of your shift knobs?

slodave 08-27-2014 01:25 AM

Thank you!

Ignore the other two... ;)

I designed an aluminum bushing that allows for easy removal and a tight fit via two set screws at 90*.

Would one of your balls fit my stick, Dave?

Very decent pricing. Well done... I'm getting one for my 911.

slodave 08-27-2014 01:28 AM

They might be a little big for you, Markus. :D

Damn, you caught me off guard with that one, thought I'd heard 'em all. Thanks for the early morning laughs and tears. :D

Nice! Thank you. :) I can adjust the diameter of my balls as needed.....

The bushings are a perfect fit from 46mm - 50mm. The ones in the catalog are 48mm.

I never thought I'd see the day when I'd take so much pride in seeing another man show off his wood...

Very cool!

slodave 08-27-2014 03:13 AM

Sniff... It was a hard decision.... My wood is just over 11' in that pic. I don't have a vehicle that can carry my long wood! I'm glad I was able to find a guy that would handle my wood and cut it down to size! :p

Shaun @ Tru6 08-27-2014 03:43 AM

Congratulations Dave!

UconnTim97 08-27-2014 04:53 AM

That's awesome! Congrats.
