Real Rice Asian Car Scene

wow, I'm speechless at some of these works of art,

that real ricer kids run for cars in Japan.

Real Rice..........guess they really like their tin metal work and vertical exhaust pipes.

let this play a while, you'll be amazed at the variety........

Looks like they like their caricatures a lot over there. I can't imagine why someone would drop an extra few hundred pounds of fiberglass on the car and make the bodywork where you are very limited by where you can drive.

But hey, to each their own.

That can be what happens when the automobile's main purpose is no longer transportation or good driving dynamics, but becomes instead a (barely) mobile sculpture.

I think I'm going to take my little Miata on a brisk drive over some interesting roads.

The comments are interesting.

"Also known as "Kaido Racer" .The idea was to take a regular car and make it as colorful, modded and often as noisy as possible. The modding isn't to make the car better - it is to take a car and turn it into a public offense. The idea was to essentially rebel against the law - the cars are illegally modded with huge tailpipes that often run directly from the engine block, massive spoilers that jut out to the point of being absurd. This modding style was popular around the Tokyo area in the 80s and like most Japanese trends...Bozozoku is generally the same thing, but with bikes. The newer trend in the 90's to present is commonly known as "JDM" or "hellaflush". pretty much lowered Nissan with negative camber. It's culture and we can't be mad at it....remember what we were like in the 80's?"

Fashion is weird in Japan. To put it mildly. In order: rockabilly, ganguro, and gothic lolita:

I'm trying to comprehend someone who doesnt understand a culture and yet thinks they do at the same time. I don't understand Japanese culture. I think the cars are cool as hell.

They do have a word for you, though.. Gaijin.

By the way, my friend built this. Because he could.

There's a difference between doing something unique and original (like your friend's work) and being "a rebel" just like everyone else.

Let's not elevate goofy Japanese fashion trends as some sort of sophisticated cultural phenomenon. It's simply rebellion against the expectation of legal/social conformity. But conformity is so ingrained in the Japanese mindset that they conform even within their "non-conformist" trends.

Totally! But in a way, it's not much different as far as a 'cultural' thing goes. IMO.

Im not trying to elevate anything here, just pointing out that rebellion often creates the most interesting art.

The girl on the right without make up? I'd hit that so hard her grand kids would come out cross eyed.

Slow down there, Tex.

I'm all for rebellion. But rebellion that is mere aesthetic imitation that leaves you with less than you started with isn't rebellion, it's just following a different flock of sheep.

Kind of like the way tattoos are these days.

Yeah, she's gyaru as opposed to ganguro. Bleached-out hair, tanned, etc. but without the whackadoodle makeup and other highly unattractive embellishments.

In Japan (and in many other Asian societies) being tanned means you are a lower-class peon who works out in the sun, hence the "rebellious" nature of her fashion choice. Personally I like tanned skin. More specifically, I like tan lines.
