Newer laptop hookup to Plasma TV questions

So.....the idiot book doesn't discuss how to do this. The connectors are RCA style component jacks, a single S Video jack and couple male/female monitor style jacks that have the set screws on each side.

My laptop is USB primarily but does have an S Video port. Can I hook this up or should I break down and find an old school DVD player?

Does the plasma have an S video 'IN' on it?
If so, I think you're all set.

Both the laptop and TV have identical S video ports.

S-video resolution is terrible compared to HDMI flat screen 1080P resolution. If this is a one time thing thing then get a converter cable but if you are going to use the laptop to flat screen a lot then you need a signal converter such as Sewell's. Here is their website:
Convert VGA to HDMI with Audio (HDMI to VGA)

Better yet buy a new tablet or laptop with a HDMI port.

I thought I had an S video cable in the garage to look at the end connectors, but I don't. I think you're still OK though. Is the TV connector marked as an 'IN'?

Not marked "IN"......but per the idjut book, it is input for various other external devices.....just no description for a laptop. BOTH the ports on the TV and the laptop are female.....so the cable would have to be male/male......the ex lost both the manual and the table top stand, the TV is an 04 model and Samsung is no help.

I don't want to buy a whole bunch of cables that won't work....

S-Video does suck.

If the TV has VGA in use that. The Laptop will have VGA out.

You'll need to run a separate audio out/in. Standard 3.5 mm stereo cable.

Take a close up of the back of the set and post. You say two VGA style inputs on the TV. Every TV I've seen with multiple "VGA" are really one VGA and one serial connection used for tech/maintenance.

Screw it.......if I wanna see big screen internet porn, I'll use the VGA as it works. The groans and fake orgasms don't need surround sound....

Craig's List has a crapload of cheap DVD players that have old school RCA Shielded jacks that will work if I wanna see a movie with sound thru the plasma.

Just wanted to do this on the cheap.

I bet they sound better than the speakers in the plasma though.

Newer laptop hookup to Plasma TV questions?

A couple of years ago I bought a 1 year old Acer Aspire 723 net book on C-list for $200. It has an HDMI port. That is why I bought it, and with a cheap HDMI cable it works perfectly at full TV resolution and on my 1920X1200 desktop monitor.
