Holy .....>gave my 2 week notice today
We have been discussing this for a while now and today was the day to start the ball rolling.
I am going to be a stay-at-home Dad in 2 weeks. Yes, walking away from a job is not something most sane people would do but given the stress and anxiety I have had in the past year, we think it is for the best. I am both excited and scared as heck. I know we can make it financially but will need to tighten the belt some more. The day care cost alone I going to save us several hundred buck a month. We saw a big difference in my son last week when I was doing the househusband thing. Wish us luck.SmileWavy |
Good man, sounds like you have some balance and perspective in your life. I wish I would have had a dose of that....I missed too much of my kids and personal life slaving at the altar of corporate life, for me much of it is too late to correct.
Good luck... Dennis |
Congratulations? Make sure you schedule some time to be around adults at times. I think that was the hardest part for me when I retired and stayed home.

Cool, congrats on getting the kept man gig. Just make sure you keep your sugar momma happy <nudge, nudge, wink, wink> and you'll be fine!
All kidding aside, go for it. Enjoy the reduced/different stress and improved family life. |
Good man.

Proud of you Wayne and good luck.....U have more patience than I.......

Congrats, that's great for you, your wife and especially the kids. My wife and I are in the begining stages of planning the same.

The best career decision starts with, "we". You have that covered :) |
Wow, thats great. You can't get the time back with your kids working in some office. You said financially you're okey, which is good. Money is not the best. Just sit back and enjoy the kids while they are young, they need your support and guidence.

best of luck in your "new" job!

How old's the kidlet?
I stayed home when our daughter was born. My wife's schedules weren't that great so she was often gone 2-3 days at a time! Hardest thing I've ever done. |
Good luck! Life's too short to grow an ulcer stressing over someone elses problems!
Every day I get closer to walking from my corporate gig. |
Good for you Wayne and good luck. Try to have fun also!
|
Good luck and congrats! It'll be real work but the paycheck will be way better than anything at a conventional job - and the govt doesn't take 40% of it!
Cherish the time with your youngling. Good on ya! |

I did the same thing more or less a few years ago. Best decision I ever made. If you can do it financially, I say go for it. Our youngest just started full-time school this week, so I'm back to work full time and happy to be so, but I wouldn't trade the last few years for a high 6-figure salary. Truly.

Thanks guys. My son is 11 and my daughter is 8. She is thrilled beyond words. My son....he is going to be mad at me forever(his words). He is classified as "special needs" by school and doctors. He is just "Jake" to us but he is a handful.
I will be an awesome stay at home parent. I have no problem doing housework and making dinner. I cook most weekends anyway. For the past 6-8 months I would get a call around 5 pm from my wife. "Late tonight?" Most days my answer was "yeah, eat without me, I'll get something when I get home". |
When women leave the workforce to raise kids, they often struggle to re-enter after the kids are grown. There's some strategies for them to keep their hand in the work world and enable that re-entry. If that is of interest, you might want to check out a book or consult w/ someone knowledgeable about it.

I can honestly say I am envious, Wayne. I would love to be a stay home dad. Best of luck!

Congrats! After five months away from a corporate job, I honestly don't miss it. My wife quit her accounting career to be a stay at home mom just before our second was born. We gave up a nice second income, but don't regret it for a second.
