Rose Bowl Concert venue advice
My wife and daughter are going to the One Direction concert this coming Saturday Sept 13. Concert start is 7 PM. Daughter is excited - her first 'real' concert ever haha. I need advice on a good location to drop and retrieve them by car.
My wife is very uncomfortable driving in traffic, strange locations, and at night. So 3 strikes. Plan is for Zack and I to drive them to the venue arriving 6 pm (1 hour before show) and pick them up after the show to drive back home North County San Diego. - I need advice on a good location to drop and retrieve them by car. - Anything cool to see for me and Zack in that location? If not the plan is a nice dinner out and a movie. I can enjoy some adult beverages as Zack is the primary driver on this ![]() Thanks! |

Figure three hours more for traffic.
There's not really any drop off spots I can think of. Of course, last time I was there was for Pink Floyd in '94. Old town Pasadena should have plenty to do at night.

I was there in 94 as well. Yep, Old Town is the place to go. Plenty of places to eat and have your beverage as well.

David, there is no dropping off place because the roads going in and out of bowl are really narrow one car per lane residential streets. I think the best is to drop into the bowl from Linda Vista off the 210 fwy.

No advice, but you can look at these pics and count your blessings.

So is Linda Vista normally less busy than the other surface streets? So North 210 past the bowl and exit N Arroyo to get onto LV via Oak Grove? What about West 134 exiting Holly Street? Guessing all exits are going to be backed up to the moon that day...can't wait...

My boss lives on Linda Vista. I think access is "residents only" for concerts. I'll ask him about his thoughts.

For dinner in town, try Mi Piace. It's one of my wife and my favorites. It's vibrant and alive inside, even a little loud. Or, they have tables outside right on Colorado Blvd, in a setting very much like a street cafe in Paris. They have a GREAT martini menu and valet parking right out front.
Mi Piace

Lots of choices. If it were me, I would drive into Old Town and set up camp. Let them take the old town shuttle to the Rose Bowl and back. I don't want my car anywhere near that mess. We always use a shuttle into the Hollywood Bowl for the same reason. Unmitigated chaos in the event parking lots.

Right. There is no easy drop-off/pick-up. You might want to consider using one of the Park-and-Ride buses. They make things really easy.

Thought I would update this with my experience in case anyone has similar questions about the Rose Bowl.
Concert started at 7 pm. We exited the 210 freeway at 5 pm at Fair Oaks Avenue. Drove 1 block South to Parsons center across the street from Shell gas and the Courtyard hotel. Near the entrance to the parking lot we dropped the girls who took the shuttle bus. Price was $10 round trip each and they said it was well run and efficient. Heavy traffic on the 210, 710, and 134 exits near the Rose Bowl. The last 3-5 miles before our exit on the 210 took ~ 50 minutes. Zack and I headed West to Burbank for some fun (Firing line), food (Outback), and a movie (AMC Burbank). Movie ended at 11 PM and as I was ordering my iced coffee with girls texted saying they were in the shuttle. Drive back to Pasadena was 20 minutes and the girls were waiting where I dropped them. Easy and I dodged being added to the slideshow linked above ![]() |
