Pelican Clock Club

Show off your clocks, tell us about them, or just post the pics.
I've listened to this clock tick off and on since 1965 or so. Was my grandparents mantle clock. When my grandfather passed away in 1984 my grandmother gave it to me. I had it refurbished. It is from the New Haven Clock Co. long since out of business but one of the biggest in it's time. It actually has an alarm built in also. The clock dates to the early 1900s.
To me a clocks tick-tock is soothing.

My folks have 18-20 wind up antique clocks. As a kid, few friends would ever sleep over again after the clocks all went off at midnight. I am looking forward to getting a few of them some day, though.

Our Blackforest cuckcoo clock. Got it for Mrs. Z-man for her birthday a few years ago -- one of her favorite presents ever!

I love the clock Mark. It is interesting that something mechanical can run and work so well for so long with very little or no maintenance.

I love a nice clock. Here's my pride and joy. Family heirloom. John Barnett of London, Verge escapement bracket clock. Circa 1695. Runs nicely but not often.

WINDING THE CLOCK

When I was a little lad, my old grandfather said,
That none should wind the clock but he, and so at the time for bed
He'd fumble for the curious key kept high upon the shelf
And set aside that little task entirely for himself.

In time grandfather passed away and so that duty fell
Upon my father who preformed the weekly custom well;
He held that clocks were not to be by careless persons wound
And he alone should turn the key or move the handle around.

I envied him that little task and wished I might be
The one to be entrusted with the turning of the key.
But year by year the clock was his exclusive bit of care
Until the day the angels came and smoothed his silver hair.

Today the task is mine to do, like those who've gone before,
I am a jealous guardian of that round and glassy door.
And until at my chamber door God's messenger shall knock
To me alone be reserved the right to wind the clock.

I passed on inheriting a grandfather clock. The ticking sound of a clock in a quiet room will slowly drive me around the bend. At night, the chimes go off waking you so that you will know it is 2am. No thank you.

Got this for my son when he was born 25 years ago. It's in his old abandoned studio.
My great Aunt a missionary doctor in India for 32 years 1932-1964 picked this up for me in Switzerland in 1954, the year I was born.

I love clocks and watches.

I've got an old German, Mauthe box clockthat was in our house as long as I can remember. I also have a black forest cuckoo that my parents bought while they were in Europe. I have a Howard Miller grandfather clock that was my parents. I also have an old navy ships clock from WWII. Right now a couple of them are in storage because we don't have anyplace to put them.

This came down the Ohio on a riverboat in 1830. My oldest family heirloom restored but its wooden dowels are worn beyond spec. Runs about 3 minutes. Monticello there on the front.
Got carried away at an auction and paid to much for this 1860's mantel.
