Got to wonder what this will mean for the F1 team. Will the team descend into comic opera? Will Alonzo stay?

Hopefully Sergio can run it like a proper meritocracy. With the exception of hiring Jean Todt (and his subsequent hiring within the F1 team), everybody there seems to have received some sort of patronage appointment, and they have the results to show for it.

I guess either or both Kimi and Fernando will have offers with the Williams Honda team, and possible movement at RB and elsewhere... It will be an interesting few months.
They really screwed up all the rule changes this time, with only Mercedes getting the power plant right, and dominating. Not a very interesting racing year, IMO...:

Silver, I think you may mean McLaren-Honda, as Williams is sure to stick with Mercedes for awhile.

It's been interesting for those of us tired of seeing four straight years of Redbull Racing winning EVERYTHING!.

Nelson Piquet won the '87 World Championship with a Williams-Honda. Next year is Mclaren exclusive, but after that, it will be available to other teams. So it is possible...

Correct you are... I misspoke concerning agreements already in place. Personally think this whole "power unit" situation is a crock. One of the first things I loved about F1 back in the day was the diverse approach to engine design that was out there for F1.

If they want to be green, just state the displacement, allocate 100 liters of fuel or whatever for each race, and get on with it.

450,
At least in the case of RB, And before that Ferrari, it was because a great driver had a great car with a great engine - in the Ferrari case tyres had a bit to do in hose years as well, then the brains took that out of the equation.
Don't even get me started on the current stupid tyre situation, another thing I hate about the current regs.

Yes! I couldn't agree more.

this may become a situation of the devil that you know...

I was not an LDM fan but we will see how things go. I have long since lost interest in the new production car direction and the bringing design in house has produced objectionable cars in my humble opinion. the new cars are being produced in huge numbers and that will only continue to rise under the new leadership.

I will only hope that my vintage f's will continued to be loved and valuations will reflect.

Ferrari lost me years ago.

"Montezemolo concurred: 'We underestimated the importance of the new engine system.'"

Wait. What? You underestimated the importance of the engine in an F1 car? And you work for Ferrari, the founder of which once said, "Aerodynamics is for those who can't build engines?" You work for Ferrari, a company founded upon magnificent engines?

That is one hell of a thing to admit, seems to me.
