Credit Card Fraud And De Activated

Our BOA Visa card was De Activated today while we were getting groceries today. Here is the kicker....We called and told Visa we were in the Dominican Republic from Monday - Saturday, Our thought this would stop any problems from occurring. Nope they shut it off and then they don't message us they turned it off. The customer service agent said the reason were suspicious purchases. He asked if we stayed in a hotel in the D.R. and if we had purchased any thing at our regular Pharmacy. I finally asked a supervisor did they look at our NOTICE of leaving the country and she said it was an automatic shutoff. Now I am PISSED. I did tell them a courtesy call had better be placed next time with a human looking over my account. How does a company stay in business operating in this manor? And yes they had my phone number.

B of A isn't really known for the human touch.

The only human touch B of A knows involves you bending over and touching your toes. Now sounds like a fine time to switch.

I did a CC purchase for a new CAT for my 911 a week ago for $450 it got denied online. Literally about 10 seconds later I got a text message from Chase asking if I had authorized the purchase, "press 1 for yes, 2 for no" Pressed 1 and got a text message saying re-try the purchase. It went right through.

On my CITI corporate card with Disney, I have a huge line of credit. I booked with less than 24 hours, two 737's to evacuate over 500 cast and crew from NOLA just before Hurricane Katrina for the features Deja Vu' and The Guardian. The hit to my CC was something like $400,000, but I got the mileage credits. IIRC we got two round trip tickets to Prague out of the deal.

I usually get that text/call 5 minutes after driving away from the store. Pisses me off.

I had to do the airplane thing with a phone call (# on the back of my CC) it went right through. I guess membership, or whom you work for, has its privileges. I think my line of credit is $500K with Disney. In an emergency I'm sure I could bump that up if I really needed to,

One other thing I like is that I have a card/on-line account that says that in an emergency they will pay whatever costs to medi-vac me back to the USA. I'm not sure "whatever" means, but it's better than butkus.

BofA ranks up there (down there?) with the worst businesses in the world, IMO. They hosed me with bogus and horribly inconvenient fraud alerts a few years ago. So this does not surprise me. Sorry for your hassles.

I would not go near BOA ever again.
They SUCK
I had a bank check made out to me from them that i payed for .
I got to the other side of the country and they said it would take 7 to 10 business days to cash their 5000.000 check!
OMG!
I did this so as not to carry a lot of cash........That was a Mistake !

Credit Card Fraud And De Activated

I opened a B of A account many years ago during orientation for college - they were offering an incentive package for students so I figured what the heck. I think I had it open a week - if that. They charged me a bunch of BS fees for things the promotional person in the Student Union hawking this said were included (ordering checks, overdraft protection, the privilege of having an ATM card, etc.) Very misleading, lots of hiding behind fine print, etc. When I called customer "service" to straighten things out and got the bureaucratic runaround for an hour I just said forget it. Pulled out every dime, closed it and have never looked back. Years later I was being encouraged by my broker to originate my mortgage through them and I flat-out refused and told him if B of A was the only option, I walk. I won't do business with them in any way, shape or form. They're the Comcast of the banking world - and I don't particularly like the banking world to begin with.

Your ONLY power against these sorts of institutions is the "power of the purse" and it's a mightier power than most people realize. If you keep giving business to companies that treat people like garbage, they keep doing it - simple. If you don't and enough other people don't, that's what changes things.

All banks suck, B of A swallows.

It's amazing how many people don't understand this concept.

On vacations I carry my back-up credit card. It is a with my credit union. My "main" credit card is with USAA. They are great to work with and I call and talk to a human when I call them. Just before my last vacation out the Monterey and back I called USAA and they asked what states I would drive through and the length of my trip. Done.

I did have one instance several years ago when I tried to use my credit card and it was declined. They had detected fraud but it was before I had text messaging so I did not know. My fear was that at checkout from the hotel the CC would be declined. That has never happened, but I have my back-up in case.

I get daily alerts from both my cards, (Citibank and Amex) on the status of my accounts. Never had a problem with either.

My Mil had BOA before she died and they were a PITA to deal with as my wife and I were on the act. They were just rude and unprofessional.

Comcast, Cox cable, Sprint, MetroPCS, Nestle, GM, Firestone, Midas, Fram, etc. are on my list to avoid.

I'd heard from a friend BoA was ok for mortgages, then I read about them delaying payments to add late fees.
Then $3.50 ATM fees in S.F.
Then having to pay for customer service to fix their institutional "mistakes".
Then foreclosing on others fully-purchased homes without a mortgage.

Life is complicated enough for most.
Why feed the pig?

I've had two CC fraud issues in the last year and Chase has handled them very well. Both times they caught it before I did and started the process to get me a new card as soon as I confirmed they were fraudulant purchases.

gshase 09-16-2014 09:27 AM

If BOA thought it was fraud, Why didn't they do any thing to follow up on it. I could have not used my card for 6 weeks. All I want is a message from BOA.

widgeon13 09-16-2014 09:39 AM

They were more concerned with covering their own arse than any inconvenience to you. Just the way they are.
