Any Good Shelf Ideas? My son moved into a new dorm last weekend. He's on a top bunk; bedframe at his head is basically 1X and the walls are solid concrete. Any good ideas on attaching/clamping on a shelf/shelves/cubbies for clock, water bottle, etc? http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1410916458.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1410916475.jpg |

Whats teh ceiling like? Could you hang some chains and run a board between them? |

I'm guessing that drilling is against the rules! It appears that the hole on the post is probably for a 1/4" dowel, maybe you could use a long board with two dowels pointing down to make a shelf? |

I would mount the shelf unit on the bed posts. That or a hammer drill and some quality anchors :) |

The ceiling is solid concrete like the walls and it's off limits. The holes are an option, and I sure wish I'd actually measured them, but I was actually thinking of something offset a bit to the rear as he is every bit of 6'1" and I'm afraid he'll hit it with his big head! Has anyone ever seen a clamp for sale made for such a thing? I have been search the interwebs with little success. |

Something like this in a different finish and clamped to the top head rail, hanging rearward, would be perfect. I can buy this at Target etc. for cheap. I just need a way to clamp it to the bed so it will both stay put and also not mar the furniture. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1410977115.jpg |

David, Maybe just use a couple "C" clamps to clap that shelf to the rail. Have the bigger end hidden under the shelf and use a couple pieces of wood with some felt or something to protect the furniture. |

If he can make the hole in the bedpost larger, he can get the pin on a Cardellinini clamp down in there and clamp a board. These things hold 50-60 lb lamps. Cardellini Products - Center Jaw (2C)http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1410993228.jpg I might be able to rustle up a few for you. |

Just measured the pin on the clamp. It's 2 1/4" long and 5/8" diameter. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1410994704.jpg |

I always slept in my female residence advisors RA bed, so what is this all about sleeping in your own bed novel idea? co-ed or all male / female dorm? oh yeah, back to shelving, I think you're supposed to put college books on them.........I dunno. |

The only other thing I can think of is to use panel standoffs with a masonite shelf reinforced along the edges. 1-1/2" Diameter by 5-3/4" Long Stainless Steel Standoff Hardware for Panel |
