Anyone's computer crash when on Pelican?

Don't know if it was a coincidence or what but was on the BB and then left it on and watched some TV about 30 mins later, I had a black screen with a system restart disc required message. Anyone else? Bueller? Bueller?

I sometimes leave my browser open while on the Pelican site and I have never had an issue. Since you have a black screen requesting a system disc instead of the dreaded blue screen I would guess your system hard drive has crashed.

Actually I am on the same box right now. I did an F2 in start-up and selected Safe Mode and then did a full scan which came up empty. I backed up all my files and we shall see if it happens again.

I know I should not gloat...but I use Linux...never have the blue or black screen of death.
The operating system determines the output of the computer...so if the system requires a lot of looks back to the HD, any interuption of that flow can cause a hickup.
Also...MicroSoft requires a lot of files to be loaded on startup...and sometimes when you want to start an app...it has to cache out a bunch of pre-loaded files in order to have enough room to load the new app.
My wife runs MS...and her startup time is a real eye opener...she has 16G of memory...and MS loads every bit of it with files it thinks it might need at that time.
Her time from power on to run is sometimes several minutes.
My startup is about 15 seconds.
Linux does not fill up the memory...and therefore is always ready to run a new app.
For your problem...you should be "cleaning" the HD on a regular basis...this involves getting rid of old cache memories stored....and compacting the HD to save space.

Just kidding, never had the problem. I'd do a full virus scan and malware scan with a good antivirus program that is capable of disinfecting a system with a virus. Also could just have a corrupt file in your OS.

Well, the good news is you can boot to safe mode. I'd think if it was virus related you'd find it nearly impossible to boot to safe mode. Did you do full maintenance? Defrag, disk cleanup......

I've done "msconfig" and then disabled some unnecessary programs and my start-up time is cut in half.
