I hate structured job interviews
 

Just got done with an interview for a position within my current company. We are a semi public company so every candidate gets the same 5 questions, on a paper that we cant see until the interview starts, then we have 1 hour to answer all the questions.

This is very dumb to me. I miss private job interviews where you sit down with one or two people, they ask questions based on your answers (not pre-determined ones) and you can expand as needed.

I dont get why we cant know the questions in advanced either. Seems to me they would get a better idea of if I'm qualified if I'm able to think about how to best answer the question. I might have a great example to a specific question but might not remember it in the 3 minutes they give you to look over the questions before you start. It's almost like the entire interview is how quickly you can think on your feet, which is is part of the interview but shouldn't be 99% or your score as it seems to be.

I feel like the interview went ok but could have gone better...who knows, guess we'll find out next week.:rolleyes:

I don't like these either, but having been on the "interviewer" side of the table a lot, this format allows a fair and unbiased evaluation of each candidate.

ew, having been on both sides of the interview table many times, this seems like an AWFUL way to interview folks.

I'm sure lots of lawyers had input on how they do interviews so I don't blame the interviewers sine they are just following direction. I just don't see how this gives good candidates, or at the very least shows if they are a good fit.

I had the same type of interview for the job I currently have so who knows, maybe I'm better at it than I think:)

Every job I've ever had began by walking in and meeting the man in charge. We talk about work for maybe ten minutes. By fifteen minutes he's telling me when I start and where my desk is.

If I walk in and see a bunch of human resources eunichs I groan and drift off to thinking of where I'm going to apply next.

My employer is male dominated, and we have "structured interviews". It always seems that any decent looking woman is immediately flirted with and walks out with a satisfactory interview. If she is smoking hot, she is usually tossed a lot of softballs and never given a curve. I don't think that there is any way to give a fair and equitable interview, whether on paper or in person. Everybody is wired to react certain ways to numerous scenarios. Guys and girls are really no different, both are susceptible to certain charms.

I just had an interview for a Fortune 100 company yesterday and it was structured like this:

0900-0945 = Meet with First line supervisor of Department
0945=1030 = Meet with VP of Department
1045-1130 = Meet with department employee group A (5 employees)
Lunch
1230-1315 = Meet with department employee group B (4 employees)
1330-1415 = Meet with department employee group C (4 employees)
1430-1445 = Meet again with First line Supervisor

Anybody ever go thru anything like this...It was a long day.

Wow, I actually just started at a Fortune 100 last month, but the interview process wasn't quite as intense. I did interview with 8 different people; two phone interviews, then onsite interviews on two different days three weeks apart because we had to wait for an opening where the CIO and CTO were available at the same location at the same time. The phone interviews were very structured, but the in person were more free-form in group settings.
