electrician help
i am re-wiring one of my rooms. right now i have 3 20 amp services going to the room. one service is for the outlets, the other 2 are split up between the room lights, outside lights and garage lights. i am thinking of putting all the lights on one service but i am close to 80% of the sevice i think.
here is what i have: 4 led ceiling lights- 12.5W each 2 outside 500w lights. not much chance both will be on at the same time, but... ceiling fan- (120w)? plus 4 40w bulbs in fan.? 160w 4 4ft flour 2 bulb T12 lights in garage.? (720w)? motion light 300w i get about 2200w or 18 amps. i am not sure of the current draw on the flour. lights and the ceiling fan. i can pull the motion light off and put it on the panel in the garage which would drop it down to 1900w/15A. i had 3 circuits because when i played in a band i pulled in another 20amp service. right now i have the lights split up on 2 sevices and it is really whacked out the way it is done. it is wired with 12g now, i could pull the section from the panel to the first place it splits back and pull in 10g and leave the rest 12g. |
A 4' two bulb is only about 100 watts I think, so you should be at 400, not 720.
I would run three circuits. One for receptacles, one for half your lighting, and one for the remainder of the lighting. Or dump the crazy 500 Watt outdoor lights to 250, and your lighting is under 15 amps. |
Get rid of the killer 500 watt and go LED. The 2 bulb T12 lights should run 40 watts for each 2 bulbs, Each transformer in the light fixture is rated at like 96 watts.

T8s are 32W vs. 40W. Better start up, ballast, and less flicker. Watts count. Or go LED. Double/triple/quadruple light without usage change. No heat. Instant on. No Halogen **** setting nearby things on fire. I'd get rid of every single one of those 300/500W monsters. |
I figured I was over estimating the T12s.
I have a big yard and sometimes all the light is good. I have not put in the 2 500w lights just the wire. I already had 5 or 6 of them. My daughter use to mess with her horse at night. |
Huh. Glad I do things overkill. I already ran 10g in there for the 20 amp service back when I had the band.
