Hmmmm, a big crew from Brittan goes to Argentina with a tag H986FKL which just happens to match up with a 1986 Falkland Islands war between Brittan and Argentina. Pretty long odds that a car they would want on the show has that tag just at random. Possible, but pretty long odds.

If you read through on some links, the controversial plate has been on the Porsche for years.

While we are talking Top Gear, see Every Episode of Top Gear, Ranked on Jalopnik for hours of entertainment.

The war was in 1982. I read that the numbers on the plates approximated the casualties?

No way would they do something lik this on purpose.

Clarckson loves to troll, so he shouldn't be surprised people react on it once in a while...

jeremy clarkson: Someone could have been killed after top gear attacked in argentina
presenter jeremy clarkson describes the attack on the top gear team in argentina as "the most terrifying thing i've ever been involved in", after crew had to flee the country

presenter jeremy clarkson has described the moment the top gear cast and crew were attacked by an angry crowd in argentina as "the most terrifying thing i've ever been involved in", and warned that “someone could have been killed”.
The star and his crew on the bbc show had to abandon their cars at the roadside as they were pelted with stones.
Trouble erupted after it emerged the team were using a porsche with the registration number h982 fkl, which some people suggested could refer to the falklands conflict of 1982.
Mr clarkson said the mob shouted "burn their cars" and tried to attack them with pickaxe handles.
A car belonging to the bbc television program "top gear" crew sits abandoned along a road after it was attacked near rio grande, argentina
he told the sun: "i've been to iraq and afghanistan, but this was the most terrifying thing i've ever been involved in.

"there were hundreds of them. They were hurling rocks and bricks at our cars.
"this is not just some kind of jolly top gear jape - this was deadly serious."
mr clarkson wrote on twitter that “someone could have been killed” during the violence, adding: “for once, we did nothing wrong.”
he also thanked on twitter those who had helped him and “the sensible argentinians who have apologised”, before saying that their dramatic departure had provided an even better ending to their show.

Two thoughts come to mind here.

Firstly the number plate was inflammatory whether it was intentional or not. What were they thinking?

Two. Since when is it okay to punch somebody? Coz he is a car guy on tv he can get away with it?

Some folks will do anything to 'improve' their ratings.

The video in the link is worth watching.

Regardless of the reasoning the whole thing just stinks... Mob rule is never a good thing.
The behaviour of the Argentinians is just unacceptable at any level.

Personally I find it disgusting that they would pelt rocks at the cast and crew.

But I do wonder if this may be part of the backlash over the Mexico episode. Both Spanish speaking countries and are Mexicans and Argentinians friendly to each other?

Regardless of the reasons it would only take a few trouble makers to spread the word and whip up the crowd.
The fact that there were hundreds of people involved tells me this was pre planned.

yeah, the Argies have to lighten up....AND PAY THEIR DAMN LOAN PAYMENTS, plus stop trying to invade a small island where the citizens do not want them at all.

Clarkson was undoubtedly sticking dear old Christina right in her eyeball, good on them....I hope they are able to piece together enough footage to put together a satire of the whole, preferably enough to cause a diplomatic row.

'effin Argies...
