IAAF World Athletics Club

The IAAF is deeply saddened to hear the news that 2009 world 800m champion Mbulaeni Mulaudzi died in a car crash this afternoon. RIP.

The 800...too long to be a sprint, not long enuff to be a dash and loaf a bit....God I hated to run that distance.

That, he was.. I really enjoyed the boat trips, more booze than most bars, all top shelf, great food and you really never knew who would show up. You would have liked him, even at 78, he was still chasing tail, always had a good story and was very true to his roots..
Here is the current boat, he downsized..

Once thought dead (1970's), turned out to be alive and in Detroit.................bizarre true story.

Sixto Rodriguez
Searching for Sugar Man - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Quote:
Searching for Sugar Man is a 2012 Swedish–British documentary film directed and written by Malik Bendjelloul, which details the efforts of two Cape Town fans in the late 1990s, Stephen 'Sugar' Segerman and Craig Bartholomew Strydom, to find out whether the rumoured death of American musician Sixto Rodriguez was true, and, if not, to discover what had become of him. Rodriguez's music, which never took off in the United States, had become wildly popular in South Africa, but little was known about him there.
+30 years after his South Afrikan rise to popularity (unbeknownst to him) he went there and performed 30 sold out concerts. Then gave most of it away to friends and family, living in the same run down house in Detroit.

A must see movie.

Personally, I think it's a great thread to honor those who have passed who were marginally famous, out on the fringe or character actors from old Hollywood that hadn't been in the limelight for years.
Not famous enough for their own thread, but well known enough to get a little attention.

Gee Joe Bob, has anyone ever mentioned you are not sensitive to others feelings. This would be in green but I am on my phone.

A respected friend Died and we are having his ceremony on the Nov 5th. Never makes the news as famous today is Miley Cyrus or a rapper.

Tom Magliozzi, one of public radio's most popular personalities, died on Monday of complications from Alzheimer's disease. He was 77 years old.

Tom and his brother, Ray, became famous as "Click and Clack the Tappet Brothers" on the weekly NPR show Car Talk. They bantered, told jokes, laughed and sometimes even gave pretty good advice to listeners who called in with their car troubles.

If there was one thing that defined Tom Magliozzi, it was his laugh. It was loud, it was constant, it was infectious.

He does not belong in this thread. He is a true American hero not some actor. He deserves his own thread.
