Dog Toy year one
have six thousand clicks on it now. and am preparing to mothball it for the winter.
have been all over the beach, up fire roads where i need a chainsaw to cut a path. used it as a grocery getter and daily commuter for a while. all in all the ural held up. there are little mists of oil from three different places. decay starting in some of the cheaply chromed parts. the biggest concern was a repetitive scraping sound from the sidecar wheel hub. assumed it was a bad bearing. for a bike that is otherwise very easy to work on this was a pain in the ass. took to to a specialty atv shop nearby, the closest dealer is 250 miles. turned out to be a bushing flopping around that covers the secondary drive shaft. some russian was probably drinking the homemade toilet wine at the factory that day. back on the road and has been going flawlessly. ultimately if people ask me questions about handling nd performance i tell them to look for another bike. it is slow, wheezes up hills and corners like a pig. but it has been a lot of fun. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1412649248.jpg |
To everything there is a season.
Nice post, Varmint. A faithful dog, bike, and sidecar.....what else is there? |

About 12k on mine, but it's not used on a regular basis. It will be the go to rig should we get any ice or snow this winter. There have been no mechanical issues that I haven't been able to attend. But as varmit said, a Ural is not for everyone.
Eboney's final ride was in August. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1412678692.jpg Jim |
found i had to take off the differential to lube some splines as part of routine maintenance. cursed and expected a day gone. only took about forty minutes from beginning to end. amazing.
so far the only modification has bee to take out the seat and lay down a dog bed whenever one of the heelers are riding. for next year i plan on a tachometer, some sort of protection for the oil pan and more dirt oriented tires. the dogs love it. though cowboy has managed to take off three pairs of doggles now and toss them into the wind. i give up. |
Dog likes it. Must be good.
I also like a bike with soul. . |
