Today was mostly uneventful.

My wife is tough. She traveled Europe playing soccer. Up until recently, she played hockey in a men's league. She beats the odds. That being said, we are willing to stack the deck in her favor.

We did bring a qigong practitioner in. This is a chinese energy healer. I am pulling out all of the stops. Best surgeons, churches praying, chinese medicine, we are going all in.

Neighbors have really stepped up. My children are being kept distracted. They know something is wrong (11 and 8), and are visibly distraught, but can be distracted. Today was full of beach, pumpkin patches and movies.

I came home from the hospital to a clean house and dinner in the fridge.

Thanks for your positive energy and prayers. They are really appreciated.

Steve

Really tough situation. Do your best to take care of yourself. You and your family needs you to take care of yourself. Support your wife, let the professionals do the care giving. Be there for your wife, your kids and yourself. Stay in "today".

Oh Steve, I am so sorry to hear this. And with the kids, hard.
My heart and thoughts are with you and your wife. Sounds like she is a tough woman. And let me tell ya, tough women don't give up when there are awesome kids and a sweet hubby to fight for.

Big big big ginormous hug!

It is with a heavy heart that I write this entry.

Deb passed peacefully last night.

She gave us the gift of time. Most cases like Deb's do not make the initial ambulance ride, but as we all know, Deb was a fighter. She made it past the ambulance, through the surgery, but in the end, she decided that it was time to transition. During that time, our children were able to come and say goodbye to their mother.

They were certainly Deb's greatest joys. Through this tragedy, we have learned what a gigantic and loving support system that we have. I have no doubt that the kids will be fine because of this amazing extended family of ours. I believe that Deb was able to take comfort in this as well and that it eased her decision to let go.

I will never be able to properly thank everyone for their support. Please do know that we are deeply appreciative. The future will be difficult, but we will make it through more easily because of all of you.

Love,

GeorgeK 10-16-2014 06:50 AM

craigster59 10-16-2014 07:13 AM

So very sorry Steve. Sending prayers for strength to you and the kids through this tough time. The quote that always comes to mind in times like these, "A life is like the flickering flame of a candle in the wind, fragile and easily extinguished. But the soul is like a star in the Heavens, glowing and burning ever brighter, infinite." RIP Deb.
