Keurig?

My lovely bride gets up before I do.

She makes the coffee.

I don't get around to my first cup till 2 hours later which means the coffee maker is off and I have to reheat in the science oven. Plus she never makes the right amount so I'm either wasting coffee or trying to make a half cup which pisses me off.

We drink Du Monde so wasting it is sacrilege and expensive.

Making a half cup irritates me, I'm a milk first then add coffee guy. It tastes better that way. Trust me, it's true. Since I'm never sure exactly how large that half a cup will be I have to add creamer 2nd.

I know, 1st world problem and there are people with bigger worries and I should put on my big boy pants and suck it up but come on, it's coffee.

So thinking of getting a Keurig.

Anyone have?

Like? Yes / no?

Can you brew bigger than a 10 oz cup?

I'd use the refillable k-cups so don't care about the variety or prepackaged stuff which I've had before and not thought too much of.

Bought one at Costco for my motor home.
'was great for that...sold it for $20 less than I paid for it (18 months earlier) a month after selling my motor home.
You'll like it...I'd say.
"A Pro tip" ...;) ...lots of different blends available for that Keurig...I like strong coffee so there's plenty to choose from.
.
Edit: Not sure about more than 10 oz. cup...at times I'd just run more water through it...or use another - whatevertheycallit.

Yes, I did the same.
More blend choices that way.

I have one and love it. Always a perfect cup, lots of choices in flavors. I tried a refillable cup and didn't care for the flavor, so I just buy the store flavors.

Love it. Every cup is fresh. I can choose if I want a dark or light roast, etc...

Why not use a French press? If I want a half batch I half the amount if coffee and half the water. Problem solved. I have a double wall stainless press that keeps coffee warm for well over an hour too. Easy enough. :). Check out the bodum Columbia. Looks classy too.

By "refillable k-cups"...
You mean this?

If so, that's the way to have the blend that you prefer.

I don't drink coffee, but my wife has been using a French press for years. After buying enough replacement glass for the usual Bodum press, I finally got her a Columbia for Christmas a few years back. It's more than paid for itself since it hasn't broken once! ;)

Yeah, I don't drink coffee, but the Bodum Columbia is the shizzle.

I am the guy that says anything more than hot water pushed through coffee grinds in pollution and should be eradicated with extreme prejudice

I also do not understand making coffee at as expensive as possible. Just tell her to make her own and when you wake up in two hours make your own. We use a $25 coffee maker and the coffee is strong enough to stand a spoon up in it…… The wife pollutes it with a little half and half

porsche4life 10-10-2014 09:25 PM

By your theory you should be using a French press, doesn't even use a paper filter!

afterburn 549 10-10-2014 09:34 PM

Not sure on the 10 once part.
But they make a whole cup of great coffee at least as good as a french press in about 30 sec.
I do not think you will miss the 10 once feature if not there.
You will just get a fresh hot cup.
Mine makes a pretty big cup and I like it strong.
No disappointments, no regrets here.

There's no middle ground for me.

Either a pour-over filter cone/french press or a push-the-button-for-crack superauto.

$10 or $600 (on wholelattelove.com). Those high dollar swiss machines are tanks and are worth every penny.

Keurig is the ink jet printer of coffee, or if you're rolling you own pods is just a hassle...

JavaBrewer 10-10-2014 09:57 PM

Keurig coffee is tea. Hate that crap. Double espresso with some hot water and whole milk for me.

The boss got one of those to put in his office. You wouldn't believe the flavors of crap that are available. French-toast flavored coffee? What ever happened to coffee flavored coffee?

It might be insubordination but I'm getting my own coffee-tool ASAP...

Had one for a few years now. Really like it. Get the coffee taste I want consistently. Lots and lots of choices. My only gripe is that it doesn't make the coffee hot enough. It's hot just not hot enough for me. That's what the microwave is for.

widgeon13 10-11-2014 02:52 AM

Have one, just made a cup. Very good. 192 degrees is hot enough for me.

pete3799 10-11-2014 03:02 AM

Never owned one but....................... milk first?
Repeat after me. Coffee first then milk (half and half in my case).

widgeon13 10-11-2014 03:03 AM

Hot and black, same way I take..........., oh, never mind! :D

Shaun @ Tru6 10-11-2014 03:22 AM

If you like Du Monde, you can't like Keurig "coffee". I will send you a spare Bodum 2 cup french press.
