Awesome Desk Chairs?

I want a new desk chair for my office. I have the default 1990-present black leather with plastic handles. The $89-119 everywhere flavor. Now I want something with lots of cushion. Like a recliner soft built into office furniture. Is this possible? Definitely don't want anything space age hi-tech. Just a good comfy velour style.

When I was working I got the company to buy me a nice fabric Recaro but I couldn't take it when I retired. They wanted to keep the chair more than me.

Go sit in a Herman Miller Aeron if you haven't before. They are actually pretty comfy! Definitely look space-age though.

The Eames Time-Life exec chair is a classic, originally designed in 1960 for the Time-Life building in NY. Great design and very comfy, a bit pricey from HM at $3500, but Ive bought these knock offs from AID for a few shows and they are well built and solid.

A link to Advanced Interior Design, they have nice stuff (Barcelona chairs, Le Corbusier, Eames, etc) at lower prices than Design Within Reach...

I have an vintage Pollock chair and love it -- leather but it reclines.

The Costco stores that I have frequently over the past few years have had a good Exec. chair that I've always liked - never bought ...already had one.
What I look for in an Exec. chair, aside from extreme comfort, support, and adjustability, is a tall back/headrest so that I can lean back as far as the chair will allow.
Many Exec. chairs don't have that tall headrest.

Funny, I have 3 Herman Millers. Have had them forever.

Was just at Office Max test driving chairs because the HM's just are not doing it for me these days.

The best chair is the one that fits you. Not a fan of the Aeron or any other mesh bottom chair. Mesh pills up slacks and gives you cold ass. Try the Allsteel #19. It is contemporary, but very comfy and supprts my bad back. It's about $1K so pricey. The Allsteel Sum chair is one I bought for call centers I used to build. Another excellent, long lasting chair that sits really well. Goes for about $500 new. Search your local area for used office furniture dealers. They'll have a wide variety you can test and are significantly less than new.

Both my wife and I have these for our home office chairs. Love them!

You will find a chair that fits you. I was looking for a desk chair not long back. I was looking for a chair that reclined and swiveled, but I came across this chair that was sold at a used furniture store. It is from our state capitol building circa 1890. It is awesome though it does not recline or swivel. I figure there is a chance that Teddy Roosevelt sat in it (just humor me on that one).

this is the preferred chair of Air Traffic Controllers at LA Center. Love my Aeron. I set it in the lowest position, adjust the back so it swings back with the least amount of resistance, and go into "low-rider" mode while controlling. Love it.

Herman Miller fan here also. I don't sit much, job requirement. The time I spend sitting is time spend here or reviewing stuff in the evening. They make the best chair IMO. Lots of support, firm and you don't get engulf into the seat and feel like you can't get out of it.
