Smith Wesson Bodyguard 380 vs Ruger LCP pistol(not spoons)
 

Anyone held both side by side and compared for a concealed? I have a couple LCP's and love the slim profile but have had some FTF's in both. I'd be interested in opines on the Smith compared to the Ruger. BTW, I'm talking about guns and not spoons.

Mark, I had the same problem when I got my LCP. Get some fine Emory cloth and polish the feed ramp. That should solve the ftf issue.

It had much better sights and a better trigger plus a smoother action
overall fit and finish was well...........better
I'm not trashing the Ruger it is a well thought out weapon and does a fine job
I just prefer the Smith.
What I did NOT like about the smith is the laser sight. the button is in a silly location and hard to activate. If you were in a real world self defense situation you'd never use it. in my honest opinion if it's not a Crimson Trace it's not going on anything I own.
and yes I own more guns than spoons.

The Keltec P3AT has "similar" issues. Use a dremel with polishing pads and compound to polish the feed ramp on the barrel. You can smooth out the entire trigger action by polishing all components and transfer bar side of the receiver. It will reduce the pull weight of the trigger, but only a little. It mostly makes the action very very smooth.

If the recoil spring Guide is metal, you might want to polish that as well. P3At has a metal one, while the P32 has a plastic one. You can get a metal guide for the P32.

When buying a bit ago, I got the Ruger LCR, very few feed failures, etc.

I looked at both and ended up with a Sig P938. Both the Smith and Ruger felt a bit flimsy and cheap. In all fairness, they are about half the price of the Sig.

Yup the 938 is the business, more money but it feels like it will last forever. Plus it shoots 9mm, so a little more stopping power in the small size too.

How about an earlier Smith. This puppy is a model 36 (same size as a bodyguard) and fits in your hand very well.

For only about $100 more, you could get a SigP290, which is a 6 shot 9mm.

Tried the LCP new out of the box. Hated the action. Notchy and unpleasant. Shot a few rounds but no FTF. Tried it again after several hundred rounds had gone through it, hoped it would be better, it wasn't. Not confidence inspiring.

I picked up a S&W M&P in the same price range if memory serves, and it was buttery smooth out of the box. I've put heaps of crappy Russian ammo through it and never had a FTF. I do clean it pretty religiously.

This will sound funny but the only guns that have ever given me FTFs are Glocks.

I have a Kahr PM9. Operation is flawless, very accurate and profile is nice. Pocket fit without a snag. Very similar to the Rugar, which a good friend has and likes well.

my brother concealed carry both. he offered them to me, but i declined. i'd end up in jail, and i'm too pretty for jail.

he changed over to a Ruger LCR in 357 and has been loyal ever since. it is a hammerless handgun and he simply carries it in his front pocket. it is in some soft leather "sock" that slides off and stays in his pocket when he draws. it is not that fun to shoot. it feels like hitting your hand with a big wooden dowel. but it is pleasantly not hard to hit centermass. in the heat of the moment, full adrenaline..i bet it kicks like a .22.

guns, handguns, pistols, heat, heater, hand-cannon.. i dont use the term spoon either. :)

+1 on the Kahr PM9. I'm surprised this gun doesn't get more mention. Just like Yazhound, mine has been flawless, with JHP and FMJ. Love this spoon...I mean "gun".

If it is important to you, the S&W has a safety, the LCP does not.

I really like my LCP. I carry it concealed where ever I can legally. Im in PA so that amounts to 99.99% of the time. It's been very reliable at the range. It did take some serious range time to shoot well. The trigger pull is long but for a carry gun with no safety that works fine for me.

The smith and the ruger are good small close up guns. However the deal breaker for me is that S&W customer service is just awful. Ruger is the absolute best there is. Deal breaker? Yeah..

Have had the Smith for a few years...many rounds through and no issues at all. I conceal carry in front pocket with one in chamber and safety on. A buddy brought his new Ruger up and we both shot them side by side..both agreed that the Smith was a better/ smoother shooter and the lack of a safety on the Ruger is not a great thing.

I currently carry the Glock 42 which is their .380. In Feb 2015, they plan to release a single stack 9mm. I will be selling my .380 as soon as i get the new 9mm if you can wait that long I'll make you a good deal:)
