How is that gonna happen?

in the old money split ferrari got an extra 100 million a year
every year PLUS the tv points money from the WCC
in the current deal they get more
as they were the first to sign the new deal

Ferrari is owned by FIAT
but the Ferrari car building is separate from racing expenses
and those expenses are covered by the decals on the car
plus the secret money from bernie E plus the points funds from tv money

ROI is free advertising

Just read on Yahoo that he is ready to sign a 3 year contract with Ferrari for 80 million dollars PER YEAR ! That is salary only add to that endorsements and whatever else he will be the highest paid athlete in the world just based on salary............wow !

Not buying it... They're paying Kimi and Fernando around 20M I think, optimistically (lots of it comes form sponsors). Neither of those guys can deliver all that much with that dog of a car.

It wouldn't be logical to pay Vettel 4x as much, when they still have Kimi (and could have kept Fernando with minimal efforts) and when there's no guarantee their car will get better (engine freeze etc..). Also Vettel is the one that wanted a change, more than Ferrari needing another World champion (they have 2 on the payroll)! Maybe it's a typo and it is over over 3 years? That, I could buy....

That said it does look like Vettel's move (and Red Bull's immediate promotion of Kvyat) has totally screwed Alonso's negotiating with McLAren or whoever...Kinda funny, considering Alonso is generally considered to be pretty machiavellian in his planning...

''The Daily Mail is reporting the value of Vettel’s three-year contract at 150 million British Pounds. His annual salary of 50 million pounds Sterling converts to just under $80 million. If that figure is accurate–and Formula one teams tend not to report the terms of driver’s contracts–it would make Vettel one of the world’s highest paid athletes.''

La Repubblica claims Vettel has signed a three-year contract worth $75 million in total, with an option for a further two seasons through to 2019. The report said the 27-year-old can also earn more for winning races and titles, and that he had been negotiating with the Italian team including Fiat chairman Sergio Marchionne since as long ago as August.

So it seems to be over 3 years. And Alonso's reluctance to move to MacLaren is due to a 2 yrs minimum, despite mucho dinero from Honda. More than Vettel per year! He wants to go to Mercedes when Ham/Ros duo explodes...
